    Ostertag seeks NBA comeback

"I know I can still play," said Ostertag, whose wife is from the Valley. "It's just a matter of getting back into shape. I can still play. I can put in 10 or 15 minutes a game, get some rebounds and block some shots."
    When could he ever play?

Laugh if you want, but if this year's Jazz team had Tag in his "prime", I think they would have been the second best team in the Western Conference, and would have given LA a hell of a battle in the WCF.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

      I'm laughing at that.

I assume you believe even today, Ostertag's brand of "clogging the middle" is infinitely more effective than the combined might of Boozer + Okur on defense.

I'm leaning towards agreeing with you, though that is mainly because I believe that the combined might of Boozer + Okur on defense = 0.

A pretty fair summary, though I tend to think people underestimate Tag's effectiveness at protecting the rim. For every shot he blocked, he altered 3-4 more, it seemed. Unlike Bokur (Okoozer?), Tag contested pretty much every shot that went up in the paint.

Debating the defense of Ostertag and Boozer is somewhat like Lakers fans debating the playoffs 3-point shooting of Shasha Vujacic and say....Shaquille O'Neal. There are no winners in that discussion.

ps does Sasha get a ring if this Lakers pull this thing off? if so, why?

Actually Boozer + Okur= -10. Not only do they not play defense on their guy, they drag the defensive rating for the other 3 players on the floor as well.

I hated Ostertag as well, but the Jazz would have been a better defensive team overall.

I wish there was a "shot contested" stat. I'm trying to remember a time a player drove into the paint and Boozer and/or Okur contested the shot. I feel pretty confident in saying that Booz never even gets his hands above his head, choosing instead to swipe at the ball as it goes by.

Isn't that kind of like saying, "If this years Jazz team had had Eaton in is prime ect, etc, etc".

It ain't going to happen because Tag is not in his prime.

If the the Jazz had had a good defensive front line player, I think they would have gone further, but they don't. Maybe one of the two young guys will develope in the next couple of years.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

The Jazz would have been a better team, but not the 2nd best team in the Western Conference. They probably are 4th behind the Lakers, Rockets, Nuggets, and Blazers.
