He's also really big, remarkable that a man that size is as skilled as Perez is.

I don't think people appreciate how hard it is to be a good catcher in the majors. If you have a good defensive catcher that can hit .240 you are doing fine. With respect to his offensive and defensive abilities, Posey is amazing. The only sad thing is that he is already like 27, so he's got 5-7 years left as a top flight catcher. But he was a college SS, so he has the athletic chops to find another position and extend his career.

My son is a catcher and loves Posey. We watch a lot of MLB quick pitch to see how Buster did yesterday. And we have to watch his commercial EVERY freaking time it comes on. But it's nice for your kids to have role models they can look up to, instead of dudes who punch cabbies over two dimes and rape women.

Without him they are terrible.

327/.385/.495 add to that 16 homeruns and 75 rbis, more walks than strikeouts and the lowest swing and miss rate of any player in baseball. He has only struck out twice in a game 5 times all season, and done so once since June 1st.

He is also the best defensive catcher in baseball (Sorry Yadier) throwing out a major league high 45.5% of all base stealers and saving an estimated 16 runs turning balls in to strikes more than all but 2 major league catchers by framing pitches.

Crazy that you won't find his name anywhere near the top of an MVP list right now.

I signed up for this deal while we were on vacation in SoCal. Now that we are back home (and the Mariners are back home) the mlb.tv blackout rules apply. I found a very nice (and cheap) reverse DNS proxy service to circumvent the blackout restrictions for $1.99/month: adfreetime.com. Works like a champ.

I was going to put this in the Cubs thread, but then only Pellegrino, Falafel, and MRD would see it.

This chart shows the number of current US residents who were living the last time each MLB team won the World Series. Giants, obviously, at over 300 million. For the second to last team, the freakin' Indians, there are still 37 million people alive from the last time they won.

Cubs? 2,755. We are quickly approaching the time where no one left in the world will have been alive the last time the Cubs won it all.

On the bright side, maybe that is the sign that will hasten in the Cubs' renewal. Maybe if we go out and kill those remaining couple of thousand people, it will finally be the Cubs' time.

I post to make SJS happy. The Oakland A's suck. They are going to suck for the entire season. I'm expecting a mass sell off of players. The rebuilt roster didn't work. It also wouldn't have worked to bring back the old roster either. At least they tried with blowing everything up. The winning streak has been odd especially how much the A's are blowing out teams. I'm certainly not expecting that to continue.

Now back to posting about the Blackhawks dynasty.

If the patriarchal blessing of a kid in one of my BYU religion classes is accurate, then you and I might get to see this after all.

Contrast that with a guy like Sosa, who - although he was one of my favorites - clearly moved from a marginal player to a dominant one due to the drugs.
voters will also consider that he was an a**hole to the media and to others his entire career, he lied throughout the entire steroid investigation, and continues to lie about his involvement. If Bonds is going to get a Pete Rose absolution, he is going to have to fess up. We all know he won't do that so he will continue to be left out, which as I stated earlier, is the entire goal here.

I dunno - I don't have a good read on the baseball writers assoc. I wonder if Pete Rose would be elected if he were allowed on the ballot - my guess is that he would. Similar with Bonds and Clemens - my guess is they get elected before their HOF eligibility runs out as they were HOF before they were tainted by PED use. Don't feel the same way with Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro, Ramirez, and others. It will be interesting to watch. What to do about players like Sosa, Bagwell and Ortiz who were rumored PED users but not proven.
