Last year I mentioned on CB during the playoffs that missing Bynum and Ariza was a big deal. The idea was met with derision. I won't mention names....

One thing that isn't getting a lot of pub re: Bynum's recent emergence.....he works out daily with Kareem....Can you imagine 2 hours or so each day with the greatest NBA center of all time, giving you tips, pointers, coaching you, etc..

Interestingly, Jim Buss gets all the credit for Bynum. He was the one that drafted him, not Mitch.

Lakers take Game 1 of important road trip. Let's see how the respond tomorrow...Memphis, 2nd night of a back to back, on the road, late flight out of Minnesota tonight.
I am not trying to downplay Bynums game tonight but Al Jefferson is the worst defensive center in the NBA. Also if I could hand pick a back to back I think Minnesota and Memphis would probably be right up there.

The Spurs play 12 of 13 games on the road. So far 2-1 with wins in Utah and Phoenix, they go home tomorrow and play New Orleans, then on the road for 8 straight.

Golden State, Denver, Boston, Toronto, New Jersey, New York, Detroit, Washington, with a back to back vs NYJ and Toronto.

If they finish this trip 8-4 I will be happy.

bynum has been playing really well the past 2 weeks. including against the spurs and a decent job against Cleveland. i think his shooting percentage over the past 7 or 8 games is above 60% and he is averaging almost 20 points and 2.1 blocks. It isn't just Al Jefferson.

I think his games next week against at Cleveland and Boston will be telling. Let's see how much he has grown. The Celtics game, in particular, will have a playoff vibe to it.

Sorry to say, but it basically looked exactly like last year. He even reacted the same. Lying on the ground, grabbing his knee. Last year it was Lamar. This year....Kobe.

Kobe went in for a layup, landed, bounced in between a couple of players and fell on Bynum. When Kobe looked next to him to Bynum, you could even see him throw his arms up, as if to say, "Crap.....not again."

One glimmer of hope that is a BIG difference from last year....initial X-rays are negative. However, the MRI will tell the story. They put him on an airplane to NYC immediately...didnt even wait for the game to end. By the time we wake up in the morning, we should know if it is season ending.

The Lakers are better this year because of Ariza. But not good enough without Bynum to beat the Celtics in the Finals.

My concern is strictly the Finals. The Lakers are good enough to beat any of the West teams without Bynum, no worries.

Man, just saw the Sportscenter clip. Ouch. He seemed optimistic in the post game interview. I will pray for him.

just finished watching the 30 min post game show. Interviews with Lamar, Fish, and Jax. The final interview was with Bynum. It gives some hope. He said it feels much different than last year and luckily he was able to lift the weight off his leg before Kobe fell on it, so it didnt do as much damage. Also, he said he can walk without the crutch and put weight on it, but the team docs want him to be safe and use the crutch. Hopefully, we will see Bynum back before the playoffs.

Again, last year, he didn't even make it past the x-ray. They knew it was damaged. This year, his x-rays were negative.

here are a couple of freaky Lincoln/Kennedy tidbits...

Last year's injury was on the 13th.
This year's injury was on the 31st.

Last year's injury was at home vs Memphis.
This year's injury was on the road vs. Memphis.

Last year, he injured his left knee.
This year, he injured his right knee.

Last year, Lamar felt bad and ran to a movie theater.
This year, Kobe felt bad and ran to a warehouse.

                      Free Josh Powell!

Terrible luck for Drew, but I'm confident he'll be back before the playoffs. I hate seeing Pau move back over to the 5, especially against Boston, but that is definitely their best lineup with Odom at the 4 at this point.

Today's prognosis: Bynum out 8-12 weeks with an MCL tear. Wonder if they'll overreact and go after Jermaine O'Neal with Odom.

You are correct, if you are referrring to 2 players that played zero role in the Lakers trouncing of the Spurs last post-season.

Oh, well. Time to get ready for next season, Lakers!

Yes I would also start thinking about next season if I were you. This is the glimmer of hope the Spurs needed. They smell blood and will now win the West.

...or at least push the series to a game 6 this year.
