Machida has looked unstoppable in his last few fights, Dana announced yesterday that Machida vs Rampage for the title. It looks like they may be the new coaches for the next TUF season as well.

Machida has been my favorite fighter for some time now because he is so cerebral about his approach (among other things). He's generally the favorite fighter of the entire group that comes over to watch, so when he won we went berserk. I wonder if the Silva fight has made him more aggressive when he picks his spots. That was a great fight to make up for the A. Silva crapfest last time.

I like Machida and his last few fights have been fun to watch, but his first few were awful and fairly boring. However the fact that he has fought 17 rounds in the UFC and has yet to drop a single round is very impressive.

The entire time I was watching the Evans fight, I got the impression that he was just waiting to explode once he found his opening, even why they were circling for the first few minutes in the first round. And he did not disappoint. We've always known he had the ability to do that, and I hope he keeps doing it.

The announcers made a lot of his Karate base and how he had his head so far back in his stance that you really have to come in to get at him but that this was also problematic because the karate kicks come right out of that stance without a "wind up" step. This makes them less powerful, but it creates a real disincentive to just put your head down and charge.

I am intrigued by this because I enjoy seeing varying styles and of course the dominant form has come to be jits/boxing/mui tai or wrestling/boxing/mui tai. To see a karate guy getting it done is kind of neat. Watch though, at some point someone is going to "solve" that dilemma I mentioned above and things will evolve again. Fun to watch.

I am convinced that Machida packs less power per punch/kick but that it doesn't matter because he is so precise. How many times in that end sequence did he nail Evans right on the chin before he sent him down?

I was going to say this same thing. Those shots all connected. His precision was impressive. They may not have had the power of a Rashad Evans punch, but when you take 2-3 or 15 like Evans did, they're crippling.

The thing that Machida does better then anyone in MMA is the way he feints. He feints a lot, so you never know when he is really going to attack, he is very unpredictable. If Greg Jackson (Rashads trainer) cant come up with a gameplan to beat him then I am not sure if anyone will.

I would be interested to see the equally unorthodox Jardine fight him. The Rampage fight will also be intriguing. No one seems to want to hang on to this belt very badly. I am impressed with Machida but its like they say, you aren't really the champ until you have defended your belt. I'm going to wait until he has done that before I anoint him the Matt Hughes of the light heavy weight division. It was only a year ago he couldn't finish a very washed up Ortiz. There is still lots of parity here, but as I said before it is fun to see a new face with a different style, we'll see how he holds up.

It would certainly make a statement. But Alexander overwhelmed the Dean. That is not Machida's style, he lies in wait. I just think the contrast of styles would be interesting. The Dean is a puzzle to me because he wins when I think he should lose and loses when I expect him to win. I'm not a huge fan of his, but he does match up well with some in unexpected ways.
