The technical term for John Hirschbeck is...

    A "douche".

Umpires are to be seen, not heard. Ejecting one of the biggest stars in the league is not good for anything but his incredibly sized ego...

That umpire was looking to throw Harper out. The last thing an ump should do is escalate the situation and that is whate he did when he yelled at Bryce and walked down the third base line towards him. Hirschberg is a terrible ump.

I already went the rounds on this with the dummies on CB so maybe you're attempting a troll. With that I'll tell you how umpires handle this:

When you argue a balls and strikes or in this case a check swing ruled as a strike, you get very little leeway. Essentially an umpire tells the dude popping off to turn around and get to the dugout. If they don't they are in danger of getting run. In this case Harper staring down Hirschbeck and raising his arms got him a warning to turn around and head back. Harper didn't do this and instead started running his mouth. It was at that point that he put himself in a position to get tossed. I'm not saying I'd handle it the exact same way as Hirschbeck (In fact I do handle it differently) but he was within the guidelines with this ejection.

I'm reasonably sure Harper will think twice before popping off on a strikout.

Hirschbeck has been around a long time and is one of the best umpires in the history of the game. At this point he has accomplished more in his profession than Harper has as a player.

And of course you're wrong. Terrible umps do not last as long as Hirschbeck nor do they become crew chiefs or umpire World Series.

Before he got fat and stupidly resigned, he was good. Hirschbeck is on an entirely different level though. He's about as respected as you get in umpire circles.

I couldn't disagree with everything in your post more. Have you even watched the video? Hirschbeck made the wrong call. Bryce checked his swing (should have been a called 3rd strike though - the pitch tracker even said it was a strike so the homeplate ump missed a call too. Hirschbeck overreacted. Bryce didn't pop off. Hirschbeck is not one of the best umpires in the game. He's a scab.

LOL. Yes they do. It's long been a problem in the MLB.

Well I don't know what they hell I was thinking giving an opinion about an umpire. I should probably go lecture Cowboy on how to raise cattle.

Shaka you're better than pulling the "I umpire games so I know" card. Hirschbeck was in the wrong. That whole thing with Harper was 90% his fault. A 29 year vet like you said, was provoking a 20 year old kid. Everything about the way he handled the situation was wrong. You're pretty much the only person I have heard defending him.

I'm not a MLB ump. However I'm a very experienced umpire.

I've seen the uncut video, not the one cobbled together for a replay. In spite of being warned by both the plate umpire and Hirschbeck, and the attempt by his third base coach to get him to turn around he continued to stare down Hirschbeck and run his mouth. At that point he was most likely going to be ejected.

Hirschbeck was within the guidelines how he handled the situation. There is very little tolerance for arguing balls and strikes. And yes, I was an umpire with over two decades worth of experience so I do, in fact, know.
