Shockingly Andy Reid is passing up the BYU OC position and he's close to a deal with the Chiefs. The Cards were also interested in him, but I think the Chiefs is job is much better. The AFC West aside from Denver is garbage and the Chiefs have some really good players already -- Jamal Charles, Bowe, Eric Berry and Brandon Flowers.

I'm not sure why anyone would pick Chicago, Philly or the Cards (especially the Cards) over the Chiefs or Chargers or even the Browns. The Chiefs and Browns especially have some talent on their rosters and the AFC is going to be wide open in a couple years. Look at the teams that made the Wild Card. The Colts' defense is terrible and they pulled about 5-6 games out of their asses. I saw a comparison between the Cards' schedule this year compared to the Colts schedule and the Cards' opponents outside of games played against the Cards went something like 140-100 and the Colts' opponents went in the reverse -- 100-140.Originally posted by lambdacoug View PostAs a fair weather Chefs fan, I'd love to see this!

I'm actually a believer in the Bengals to a limited extent. Andy Dalton is a serviceable QB and they're pretty good elsewhere. I'm not a big believer in Marvin Lewis, but they have a really coordinator in Mike Zimmer. I think we're going to see Pittsburgh and the Ravens fade and either the Browns or Bengals are going to be the teams to beat.
Tom Brady is 35 and Peyton Manning is 36. I think they're both going to be competitive for a couple more years and that's about it. Elway played until he was 38 and retired at a great time before his skills had greatly diminished. Marino didn't do the same and held on a year too long.
There is no Aaron Rodgers in the AFC. There also aren't teams like the Giants, Niners or Seahawks, who, along with the Packers, are going to dominate the conference for the next five years. The Redskins may get in on it but I worry about RGIII's durability and Daniel Snyder's meddling.
The AFC is wide open in a couple years. The Colts will eventually be a real force, but they need a couple more drafts to build up the defense and o-line. I worry about a Detroit Lions type of decline next year. Other than the Colts, who is there down the road? Do the Steelers somehow get younger on defense in a hurry and does Roethlisberger stop hanging onto the ball until the very last second and taking those brutal hits?
I see the Chiefs and Browns and I think of the 2010 49ers. Young, talented roster with terrible coaching and QB play. Andy Reid is a great hire and I think they need to trade for either Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith or Matt Flynn. There's no QB deserving of that #1 overall pick this year. I'm pretty sure the Niners would take the first pick of the third round for Smith. There may be a team out there willing to trade a low second, I'm just not sure who it is (Baltimore?).Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I would like Reid be our coach, if for no other reason than to spite Denver and Oakland.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI love Denver and hate the Chiefs.
I don't want Andy in the division. Go coach Arizona, Andy.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Chip Kelly will make an awful NFL coach, no one should hire him. Please no one hire Chip Kelly. I am making this statement for the good of the NFL team considering him, not for the good of the Oregon Ducks.
I guess if someone does hire him, it will be interesting to see how Chris Petersen does with the Ducks. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

It is a mistake if they don't. Unfortunately, it does sound like they will just promote the OC. This proves even more that Chip Kelly is not good enough to coach in the NFL.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI don't think they'll hire Chris Petersen. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I thought I read somewhere that Chip Kelly was considering jumping to the NFL last year - but wanted an assurance that Oregon would promote the OC instead of looking elsewhere for a HC. And when he didn't get it, he decided to stay put.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostIt is a mistake if they don't. Unfortunately, it does sound like they will just promote the OC. Strange - but I swear that was the story being told.

I could see Chip Kelly pulling a Petrino (the first kind of Petrino, not the second) and bolting on his struggling NFL team once USC fires lane Kiffin in a year or two.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostChip Kelly will make an awful NFL coach, no one should hire him.
