On an aside, it's funny to note how many skinny pitchers have tested positive, i.e. this cat while with the M's..

Edit: In fact I believe half of the players who have tested positive are pitchers.

I would be crushed like a little child if my 2 favorite players of all time ever admitted to using...

      1. Cal Ripkin Jr.
      2. Nolan Ryan

      I would just cry.

How pathetic is this for MLB? Basbeball has become pro wrestling. The vast majority of the fans think the players are all cheating and that what happens on the field is not organic. There is no credibility.

Yes, fans still come out in droves to watch, but it should be a huge concern for Selig that everyone thinks your best players are all frauds and cheats.

It has arrived at a point where people are not only ambivalent towards cheating, they actually EXPECT that the players are cheaters.

Perhaps they should eliminate the World Series trophy and replace it with an AL/NL unification belt.

At first, I thought Canseco was just being bitter about getting caught, but he's proven to be very accurate about those he has named.

Suspending a guy like Manny is a step in the right direction to start cleaning up the league, but if MLB really wants to be serious about it, expulsion of the big names is what needs to happen.

The articles I read reported they are not getting him for steriods. The MLB drug testing policy is not good enough to catch very many people. HGH and fast acting testosterone would have very low probability of getting caught. All MLB is going to catch now is idiots.

Woohoo! It was all a big misunderstanding. Manny has issued this statement through the PLayers Association. Apparently he wasnt taking steroids. His doctor gave him some medicine and Manny had no idea that it would violate baseball's drug policy. Phew. I feel much better now.

The good news is that ManRam will re-sign with the Dodgers at the end of this season. He gets back July 3, so still plenty of time to make a late season push. And now that the Dodgers are saving cash on ManRam's contract.....

I don't think that MLB baseball is pathetic at all. Do you really think that the NFL is any better? At least there is some outrage in baseball when someone is caught. Manny's legacy is now tarnished. No one even gave a damn when Merriman was caught. Manny will be labeled a roider the rest of his career, Merriman rarely have roids mentioned with his name.

I don't think what happens on the baseball field is any less organic than what happens on the football field or the basketball court.

Look at Lebron James would anyone be remotely surprised if it was revealed that he is on roids?

To me this is also part of the expectation. Pitchers were not using for bulk, but rather for recovery and stamina. None of this would be visible at all if looking for muscle or bulk on the pitcher's frame.

I know I've said this before, but I had a friend in the Dodgers organization explain all the various types of performance enhancers out there and I was stunned by the variety. He basically made it sound like once a guy made the 40-man, he basically starting using without question. Hence my belief that just about everybody was doing them.

I am a casual baseball fan. I think I am the very definition of that because I don't follow a team or the league that much, but if there is something compelling on like the playoffs, or someone chasing a record or if tickets fall in my lap, I am there. If my area ever grew a competitive team I would take a more active interest as I have with the Capitals lately. I am the guy that the MLB would like to lure into spending some money and under the right circumstances I will.

I set forth my casual fan credentials for the following reason: my perception is that MLB over the lat 20 years is a joke because virtually every significant player who did anything important or made a difference in a big game was on roids. My perception is that this still is the case. It may not matter to hardcore fans and my perception may be totally wrong. But it is my perception and I think there are a huge number of people like me out there who, while not enraged or scandalized or anything like that, have even less interest in the game now than before as a result of that preception.

I wonder how much this hurts? Maybe not at all.
