Tiger and PGA golf

I am a casual golf watcher, I love watching the Masters and the US Open every year and have since HS age. Personally I really like Tiger, but he makes golf a lot more fun to watch.

Today the golf tournament has been a lot more fun to watch than either of the basketball games. I would love to see Tiger in person in the next few years while he is at his peak still.

Amen. I watched the Bay Hill event instead of the basketball games too. Tiger is unreal. I'd be riding the bull down the fairway if I hit some of the shots that makes him curse and slam his club into the ground.

This reminds me why I like to listen to Johnny Miller during a broadcast - he was the first guy who wasn't afraid to say when a golfer had just hit a bad shot. In a way, it was helpful for us weekend hacks to really learn the difference between the ability of us and the pros.

As for Tiger, he's amazing. Like the best in other sports, it's his mental toughness that separates him from the others.

I don't think there has ever been another athlete in any era, in any sport as mentally tough as Tiger. He is nails. It's amazing watching him on the final day of a tournament. It's a study in psychology watching all of the other players around him fold from the pressure and he just gets stronger. After Magic Johnson he's probably my favorite athlete of all time.

You may be right about Tiger being the mentally toughest. Golf in particular demands mental toughness more than other sports, because you're really not competing against the other golfers - it's just you and the course. What others do really have no bearing on what you're doing. Tiger has mastered the ability to not allow what the rest of the field is doing or has done during a particular round better than any other golfer I've seen.

Although, I am glad that Tiger won it today, rather than Sean O'Hair losing it. I am quite concerned about Sean's fragile state of mind, him so young and far from home and that awful mess with his father and all.

O'Hair re-enacted the Tin Cup debacle once already last year; I didn't want him to go through it again today.

The fact that O'Hair has had the success he has on the tour is a testament to his talent. That kid has been through a lot.
