You have to evaluate the signing at the time it was made, not in hindsight. Everyone knew that the Juan Pierre was an awful deal the day it was signed. Andruw Jones and Schmidt their were huge risks associated with the deals but they were short term deals. The Dodgers are already done with Andruw Jones. The Dodgers will be done with Jason Schmidt soon enough, but they have another 2 years of Juan Pierre.

The Schmidt deal was praised by several very good baseball columnists. Sheehan and Keith Law both thought it was a great deal. Keith Law even called it "one of the better deals of the offseason."

Pierre's deal was an abomination from the day it was signed. Andruw Jones and Jason Schmidt's deals were short term high risk/high reward type contracts.

I completely disagree with the evaluation process. I think it should all be done in hindsight. What did you get out of the player for the money you paid him. Andrew Jones and Jason Schmidt have given the Dodgers a little more than dick itself. JuWan has at least contributed.
