  • The Official Olde Towne Team Thread

Rough night last night for Red Sox fans everywhere.

If BYU doesn't go to the Big 12, I'm not sure remaining a sports fan is good for my mental health.

I'm sure their bandwagon fans from across the country, each with their own farcical reason for liking the Socks despite no geographic or other ties, are taking this loss hard.

Take solace, Socks fans....North Carolina or Duke basketball is just around the corner, as is Detroit Red Wing hockey.

So angry. Shouldn't you be happy about this?

GM, at least the epic meltdown might serve to temper some of the Red Sox hate you experience.

I have no problem wearing my Red Sox gear up here because the local semi-pro team (Seattle Mariners) is so horrifically bad, nobody seems to care if people don't cheer for the 'hometown team'.

7-24 in the last few weeks of the season. That is just painful.

            :anger:

I guess there is Detroit Red Wing hockey if you enjoy seeing them get their asses kicked by the Blackhawks.

              lol.

              QED.

We need a thread wherein all the CUF Socks fans can share their poseur conversion stories to a team based in New England.

One thing the Socks are historically better at doing....attracting poseur fans.

Socks fans prefer the Red Wings over the Hawks because the Red Wings have a more recognizable brand.

I am sure many of our resident CUF Socks fans from the West dream of the day they can attend a Red Wings game in person and throw a dead eel onto the ice after a goal is scored.

I grew up in Maine, and they were my first favorite professional sports team.

                    Really? Hockey?

Why not throw some LaCrosse banter in this thread for good measure?

This is actually an acceptable story. However, please define "grew up." How old were you when you moved away? If you were 4, does not count. If you were in your teens, then ok.

I am looking forward to the Puffycheck cheering for the Jazz

                              Interesting.

So, I started cheering for the Red Sox in the early 80s. I was a big fan of Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Carl Yastrzemski, etc. I think I was drawn to them because I was also a fan of the Patriots starting in first grade in 1977 (because of the patriotic events surrounding the Bicentennial).

Then I lived there for a decade, luckily coinciding with their good years.

But if cheering for a team for the better part of 3 decades makes me a 'bandwagon poseur', then go ahead and call me that.

Hmm. This coming from a USC Trojan fan?
