Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Snyder is trying to be the next Al Davis. I feel for you Skins fans.
He's trying to be the next Jerry Jones. He just doesn't have the right people around him in the front office. This is a full time job for Jones and he keeps himself informed. I'm not sure Snyder or Cerrato (our player personnel guy) spend that much time on football.

That's a more apt comparison. Keeping up with the Jones' is that much tougher when you have to play them twice a year.

We have said this before, but the bottom line is that the Redskins do not have a football mind anywhere in the front office. Snyder has gotten more conservative in recent years by not going for the big free agent and by trying to build through the draft. That is the right way to do it but of course it is wasted because they squander the picks.
I actually distinguish this signing from some of the big ones of the past because Haynesworth is a stud in his prime as opposed to a guy just past his prime as so many others have been. With that said, the next time a free agent comes to DC and performs anywhere in the neighborhood of what he did in his contract year will be the first time.
Oh, and I don't think Haynesworth will going to help the offense that scored fewer points than the 0-16 Lions very much. Just sayin'.
Combine that with the 6 yr/54 Mil dollar deal they just gave to DeAngelo Hall.
I was going to mention that one. That deal is far worse than Haynesworth's deal. The only thing I don't like about the Haynesworth deal is that he's making like $32 mil of that this year. But less than half is guaranteed. The Hall deal is bad. I can't believe he could command that much money after Atlanta and Oakland.

Hall was in a great position with the Skins this year because he came in and performed well. Combine that with Sean Springs getting old and Carlos Rogers inability to catch an interception and you've got yourself a gold mine.

The truth is that until the NFL does something to regulate contracts and not allow teams like Washington to "massage" the salary cap, they'll continue to sign guys to deals like this...which is why it is more important right now for Snyder to have a cap guy vs. a football guy.
Just wait until next year: No Salary Cap!

Between him and Deangelo Hall we have Stubblefield and Deion Sanders part deux.
Not quite. But I understand what you are saying.
