Spring Training - Where Do the Teams Stay

Last night I checked into the lovely Scottsdale Plaza Resort for a conference. During the evening, I saw several young, big guys who gave out that self-confident, athletic vibe. Some of them were speaking Spanish. One of them was carrying a baseball glove.

During spring training, does a team stay together at a hotel? Or do the players just seek lodging individually? I'm trying to figure out if I should be stalking anyone.

Yeah they all stay in a hotel.

A few years back I had a flight canceled out of PHX and was put up in a hotel that the Angels were staying in. They spent most of the evening in the bar/lounge.

The Buttes in Tempe? That's where they used to stay. Their park and facilities were about 500 yards away from the parking lot of that resort.

It all depends. There are quite a few veterans that have homes down in Arizona. Sometimes the players will rent houses and 3 or 4 of them will move in together for the month. Others stay at the team hotel.

Agreed. In fact, I think it's usually the minor leaguers or young guys that usually stay at the team hotel.

Back in the 90s, one of the teams used a pretty nasty old hotel near MetroCenter for their team hotel. I hope they have since changed their crazy ways (esp. since MetroCenter is pretty ghetto these days).
