Anything to distract from the poor level of actual play, I suppose. I was watching some highlights last night and couldn't believe that they were highlights. It was almost like watching women's basketball as far as actual play goes. But while those women couldn't beat a good college player, they could beat me, so I'll keep my yapper shut for now.

That's funny, because tennis is one of the few sports where I think the women's level of play is just as entertaining as the men's. Does anyone remember watching Serena Williams' match in the 2004 (or 05) Australian open? I can't remember who it was against, and I don't think it was for the title, but it was one of the most thrilling sporting events I had seen in a long time. Really spectacular.

I agree for the most part. I womens tennis is appealing because the serve/volley style that dominates the men's game is not as entertaining as the long rallies that are more frequent in the women's game.

The long rallies are due to the inferior play. But I can see how some people like it. It is a high level of tennis and they hit pretty hard. Just not remotely close to what the men are able to do.
