I'm sitting in a sports / drinking establishment waiting for the game to start with a few friends and these guys from ESPN Radio New York come in carrying t-shirts, ESPN shower radios, ESPN magazines and other stuff.
They come up to my table and say "we're giving out this stuff you just have to answer some trivia questions - first off - who are your teams?"
"Niners, Celtics, Dodgers and BYU football."
They think for a second and say "Dodgers - the question is - what player was batting behind Gibson when he hit the game winner in 1988."
Took me about four seconds of walking my memory back through the Dodgers lineup...Sax... Jeff Hamilton? John Shelby? Then boom.... "It was Mike Marshall."
Got some very respectful nods for that one. And now I'm sporting my "ESPN New York 1050 AM" tshirt and have a rad little radio in my shower.
And to think that my Mom thought my knack for useless sports trivia would never pay off.
