When will the recession start hitting pro athletes?

People across the country are losing jobs, foreclosing on homes, and you have guys out there still wanting to talk about getting raises, renegotiating their contracts for more money when they are ridiculously overpaid as is.

I would love it if a major pro sports league (NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL) reduced salaries of players along with the salary cap to help cover rising costs. I know it won't happen, but it would be great to see.

It might happen when people quit going to games, buying merchandise, etc.

You could also ask when it's going to hit Hollywood as well. I've heard that Tom Cruise averages $60M per movie. Other celebrities are overpaid too. Oprah earned something like $250M in '07.

Sports will always be an escape from the crappiness of real life for millions of Americans. My guess would be that pro sports actually has a chance at increasing viewership through the tough times. Movies are in the same category imo.
