  • Help plan the HFN boys summer 2011 MLB tour

So we have 3 options that look like they will work. My boys both do really well in the car, so I think any of these options will work. Game start times are not yet available, so if one of the midweek games ends up being a day game it might mess us up.

    Option A
    June 20-Yankees @ Reds
303 miles to Pittsburgh with a sidetrack through Dayton.
June 21-Baltimore Orioles @ Pittsburgh Pirates
379 miles to NYC with a detour through Hershey, PA
    June 22-NYC sight seeing day
    June 23-A's @ Mets
    June 24-Rockies @ Yankees
    195 miles to Cooperstown.
    June 25 & 26-Baseball HoF
    270 miles to Philadelphia.
    June 27-Red Sox @ Phillies
    June 28-Red Sox @ Phillies
    Fly home
    ------------------------------------
    Option B
    June 19-Blue Jays @ Reds
303 miles to Pitt with a short detour through Dayton.
    June 20-Orioles @ Pirates
    349 miles to Niagara Falls/Palmyra
    June 21 & 22-Falls, LDS stuff
    293 miles to NYC
    June 23-A's @ Mets
    June 24-Rockies @ Yankees
    June 25-Sight seeing NYC
    98 miles Philadelphia
    June 26-Sight seeing Philly
    June 27-Red Sox @ Phillies
    Fly home
    -------------------------------------
    Option C
    June 19-Brewers @ Red Sox
    June 20-Padres @ Red Sox
    241 miles to Cooperstown
    June 21 & 22-Baseball HoF
    193 miles to NYC
    June 23-A's @ Mets
    June 24-Rockies @ Yankees
    98 miles to Philadelphia
    June 25-A's @ Phillies
    June 26-A's @ Phillies
    Fly home
    -------------------------------------

Some plusses and minuses to each option. Captain has decided that he is a huge Red Sox fan, so I would like to try and get him to Fenway. However he isn't that old so getting there on another trip is possible.

Option 2 is about 1200 miles mixed in which might be a little much even for my kids who are road warriors, but I really like the idea of getting to Niagara Falls and Palmyra.

Option A gives us everything but Fenway, but does get a Red Sox game. Thoughts CUFers?

Fenway will be a defining experience in that young man's life. Option C.

You sir are one hell of a dad.

You do need to do a west coast trip one of these times and take your kids to the best stadium in baseball, AT&T park home of the soon to be National Champion San Francisco Giants.

Those are some pretty extended trips. A few summers ago we went Camden, Philly, Cooperstown, Pitts and Cincy. It was awesome.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Those NY tix are expensive. You're really close to Camden Yards and the Nationals. I don't know if Strasberg will be back by then though.

Sounds like a rad trip. Philly is just 3 hours away.

I think luck or the force may be with us, I have a hard time seeing the A's or Rockies being an scalpers dream ticket.

Too bad that Rockies/Yanks game is a Friday night. You'd be able to get some dirt-cheap tickets if it was midweek.

I vote option C, BTW. Between the miles, the ballparks, and Cooperstown, it seems like the best option.

The Dayton Dragons have a 3-game series at home with the Lansing Lugnuts on June 17-19. I think you'll find Fifth Third Field a downright pleasant place to enjoy a minor league baseball game.

Plus, you can go to the amazing Oakland Colo . . . oh wait.

Hey that is an experience as well. HFNs boys will be shocked that major league baseball allows a team to play in such a shit hole.

I pick option 3 because it gives you the most A's games. You will get to see a bunch of young players with talent, but currently playing at replacement level. It will be a joy.

If it wasn't for these guys, the A's would already be out of Oakland and not playing it a shit hole. I laughed when I say this 4 years ago, but now I would never doubt the power of ghost riding your Volvo.

You should check out the Columbus Clippers if you can. They just built them a new stadium in the arena district of Columbus. Right next to Nationwide arena where the Blue Jackets play. It is a pretty sweet stadium and not a bad seat in the house..

I do not see their 2011 schedule yet. Yet you will be traveling through Columbus to Pittsburgh on I-70 East..

Personally I like the option C. Less travel, better baseball. I do think being that close to Palmyra/Niagra would be a shame not to visit. However, your kids are still young and might not appreciate it as much. So it might not be that big of a loss. But seeing the Hill Cumorah, the farm, and the Sacred Grove is awesome. Niagra is only worth it IMO if you get to the Canadian side. Now you'll need passports though.

So probably C. Crab cakes at Camden Yards in nearby Baltimore would be awesome. You're about an hour and half away from Philly. Your kids would dig Inner Harbor too with the National Aquarium and other stuff.
