    The Frog House

I remember this surf shop from my years living in Newport and I am sure many have passed it driving PCH from HB into NB. I would get goods there enough to know the staff at the time, but it has been 15 years or so since I have stepped into the shop.

Today I find out that the city may close it down because of some zoning laws? That is sad. I remember being upset when they demoed Jacks in downtown HB as my dad was one of the original locals there. This seems like it would be right up there with that, but I have been removed from the scene too long to know. Either way, it would seem strange to pass that spot and The Frog House not be there.

Yeah that one. I know it is rebuilt on basically the same locale but not the same feel.

As far as the frog house,

Looks like there are some outs and I am sure the public pressure will be enough that nothing will happen, but we'll see.

In 2006, Newport Beach was updating its general plan, which included taking action on zoning restrictions. Two years later, an ordinance passed that required the city to take action on Frog House and three other nonconforming properties in residential areas.
"[In 2008] the choice was that the commercial uses in residential uses have a year to abate or apply for appropriate modifications or permits, or they would have to leave their location," Hunt said.
Although the public has had access to the ordinance since 2008, Hunt said that the city did not contact Frog House directly when the change happened.
