Dodgers offer Manny 1 year 25 mil

I have grown tired of the Manny drama. He and the Dodger really need to shit or get off the pot. Looks like the are about to. I actually like this offer if he will take it. Something is telling me he doesn't but that is a lot of cash. If he takes this deal he will be the 2nd highest paid player just behind Arod. The Dodgers have given him 48 hours to accept or counter.

I like the one year deal because if they do sign him for this, they can make a run at Holiday next winter and try to sign him for 6 to 8 years when he leaves the AAA team he will play for this season for some cold hard cash.

    He turned it down.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Wow...for some reason the thought that a grown man just turned down 25 million dollars--25 MILLION, likely more money than this entire board makes--to play a little game, for a year, just floors me.

This is why I am amazed when I hear that professional sports teams are having to lay people off.

        Incredible.

I don't necessarily think he's overpaid (what does that mean anyway?), or that people shouldn't be laid off. It's not his fault he's found a market for his skills. It's more of a commentary on our society and what it values than it is on sports organizations and their management.

Crap. The Dodgers better hurry up and counter with yet another offer. Or else all these other teams are going to swoop in and sign Manny.

Boras will get him a long-term deal, you wait and see!

Manny will end up somewhere because there is always a team that is stupid enough to sign a cancer like him. I'm more curious to know how this one year offer of $25M will come into play. Will Manny and his agent want something like a 4 year $90M deal?

Teams like the Texas Rangers or the Washington Nationals. If Manny wants to go play for a team like that to finish his career then go right ahead....

I think this is all about getting that 3rd year. He and Boras know that 4 years or more is out of the question. And with a 1 year deal, Manny will have to go through all of this next summer, except he will be one year older.

At this point, Boras needs to save face and hold out for the guaranteed 3rd year.

I love how the Dodgers second offer is actually shorter than the first one.

I wonder if the Dodgers had offered him 1 year at $27 or 28M, making him the highest player, would he have accepted? I can see Manny being worth more than A-Rod.

This annoying Manny-being-Manny behavior....no wonder Boston finally got sick of it.

Manny already has a ring. At this point, he may be trying to get as much as he can for life after baseball.

Buster Olney reported this morning that he spoke with someone in the Giants organization and they are preparing a 3 year 60 million dollar deal for Manny with a club option for a 4th year.

He has that for 2 years, not for 3 and a potential 4th. Does he want more years or more money? He just shunned the more money part.

                            He wants both.

Look you can have Holliday right here and now if you want him. All it will take is Ethan Martin, Ivan De Jesus and either James McDonald, Scott Elbert, or Andrew Lambo.
