    2010 NFL Season Predictions

    AFC

    East - New England
    Wild Card - Miami
Bold Prediction - Riding high off of their season of Hard Knocks, the Jets will miss the playoffs. The schedule and inexperience at QB will do them in as their coach and several players on the team continue to place a rather large target on their collective backs.

    North - Baltimore
    Wild Card - None
Bold Prediction - The fact that there is no wild card coming out of this division is bold enough. I think the Ravens will claw their way to a 10-6 or 9-7 finish and the Bengals and Steelers will miss the playoffs with records of 8-8 or better.

    South - Indianapolis
    Wild Card - Houston
Bold Prediction - Not only will Houston make the playoffs out of this division, they'll win a playoff game as well! (not to spoil my picks!)

    West - San Diego
    Wild Card - None
Bold Prediction - Kansas City will keep itself in the playoff discussion all season long, but will miss out with an 8-8 record, which will be a vast improvement over previous seasons.

    NFC

    West - San Francisco
    Wild Card - None
Bold Prediction - The 49ers will break through this year and will not only win their division, they'll get a first round bye and host a second round playoff game with a record of 11-5 or 12-4.

    South - New Orleans
    Wild Card - None
Bold Prediction - The Saints will be this division's first repeat champion in a long time and the Panthers under Matt Moore will finish second and remain in the playoff discussion all year long, but miss out by a hair at the end. If there were a 7th team I could put in the playoffs, it'd be Carolina.

    North - Green Bay
    Wild Card - Minnesota
Bold Prediction - Green Bay will win the division and will split in the regular season with Minnesota. Brett Favre will see his career come to an end at Lambeau field. Also, Detroit will finish with a better record than Chicago.

    East - New York Giants
Wild Card - Washington Redskins (my homer pick)
Bold Prediction - When the Redskins and Giants lock horns on January second, it will be for the division crown. The Giants will edge the Redskins, but the Skins will finish 9-7 and sneak into the playoffs under first year head coach Mike Shanahan. Dallas will miss the playoffs because of divisional tie breakers and both Wade Philips and Jason Garret will be fired in an attempt to bring in Bill Cower, who will spurn the Cowboys to coach in Carolina.

    Playoffs:

    AFC Wild Card

    Miami @ Baltimore - Baltimore
Houston @ New England - Houston

    NFC Wild Card

Washington @ Green Bay - Green Bay
Minnesota @ New York - Minnesota

    AFC Divisional

    Houston @ Indianapolis - Indianapolis
Baltimore @ San Diego - Baltimore (Norv Turner gets fired)

    NFC Divisional

Minnesota @ San Francisco - Minnesota
Green Bay @ New Orleans - Green Bay

    AFC Championship

    Baltimore @ Indianapolis - Indianapolis

    NFC Championship

Minnesota @ Green Bay - Green Bay (I told you Brett Favre's career would end in Lambeau!)

    Superbowl

    Indy over Green Bay

What are some of your predictions?
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Bold Prediction - Steelers do not have a winning record on the season

    South - Indianapolis

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

        Totally off the cuff ...

        AFC East
        1. Patriots
        2. Jets (WC)
        3. Miami
        4. Buffalo

Bold prediction: Buffalo won't be as bad as suggested. CJ Spillar wins rookie of the year, and the Bills get to 7 wins.

        AFC North
        1. Cincinnati
        2. Baltimore (WC)
        3. Pittsburgh
        4. Cleveland

BP: Cincy wins home field throughout the playoffs, going 13-3. Baltimore wins at least 11, and Pittsburgh, despite going 10-6, misses the playoffs in what is widely lauded as the toughest division in football for 2010.

        AFC South
        1. Indianapolis
        2. Houston
        3. Tennessee
        4. Jacksonville

BP: Vince Young takes a huge step backward after Chris Johnson's heavy workload takes a toll and he misses 2-3 games with injury.

        AFC West
        1. San Diego
        2. Oakland
        3. Kansas City
        4. Denver

BP: Josh McDaniel gets the boot after the Broncos slide to 4-12, while both Oakland and KC flirt with .500

        NFC East
        1. Dallas
        2. Washington
        3. Philly
        4. NY Giants

BP: Parity reigns. No one finishes better than 10-6, no one worse than 7-9.

        NFC North
        1. Green Bay
        2. Minnesota (WC)
        3. Detroit
        4. Chicago

BP: My No. 3 team says it all

        NFC South
        1. New Orleans
        2. Atlanta (WC)
        3. Carolina
        4. Tampa Bay

BP: If this division finishes any other way, there will be either major injuries or a SB hangover in New Orleans, or young QBs in Carolina and Tampa develop into Pro Bowl-caliber signal-callers.

        NFC West
        1. San Francisco
        2. St. Louis
        3. Arizona
        4. Seattle

BP: OK, if the Rams finish second, then Sam Bradford is ROY. Never liked Pete Carroll as a pro coach, and Seattle's talent was thin to begin with.

AFC championship: Cincy vs. San Diego

NFC championship: Green Bay vs. San Francisco

Super Bowl: San Diego over Green Bay

          I'll stick to SB predictions:

          NFC: Green Bay

          AFC: Baltimore

          Take it to the bank.

And I'm inclined to pick the Ravens as the winner, but I think it's a toss up.

                Time to revisit this thread.

I correctly picked four of the six NFC playoff teams. I correctly picked three of the six AFC playoff teams. I messed up on the AFC very badly, I did better with the NFC.

Getting the AFC West and NFC West wrong isn't that big of a deal. Both of those divisions suck and neither playoff representative will do anything in the playoffs.

However, these were my two biggest errors:

                1. New England, no they're not the Cowboys from the late 90s.
                2. Pittsburgh, somehow they get by with a shaky o-line and there defense is still very good.

I don't count my dissing of Chicago a huge error -- I still think they're going to get beat in their first playoff game against either New Orleans or Philly.

Here's what I got really right:

                1. Hope in Oakland and Detroit.
                2. Hopelessness in Denver.

                Partially right:

                1. Hope in Cleveland (Colt McCoy?)
                2. Hopelessness in Buffalo

The funny thing about my Super Bowl predictions is that they could still come to pass. I can certainly see Green Bay beating Philly and Atlanta in successive weeks. New Orleans in the NFC championship is a different story. Indy somehow locked down the #3 spot and therefore has a much easier path to the Super Bowl. They get the Jets in the first round, a likely win, and Pittsburgh in the second round -- that game will be hard to predict. On the other side of the AFC bracket, the Ravens have given NE more problems than most teams while Indy seems to have the Ravens' numbers.

You don't just get to gloss over that you picked two teams from the NFC West to be .500 or better, one to win 11 games, by saying it doesn't matter.

I picked those teams to win that number of games because the NFC West and AFC West were playing each other this year, I figure a couple teams would have beaten up on all the terrible teams in both those divisions. It still boggles my mind that these two conferences were playing each other this year and only one team could get to 10 wins and the other division winner only won 7 games.

The Niners have the talent to win 10-11 games but they had probably the worst coaching staff in the league this last year.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
