    Utah High School Football Thread

Utah is stepping up its high school football status in a pretty significant way. Yesterday Corner Canyon beat IMG Academy, a traditional powerhouse out of Florida ranked #3 nationally. Pretty impressive statement. The Corner QB is Timpview transfer Helaman Casuga, who has been starting varsity since 9th grade. He hasn't committed to college yet but has BYU in his top 8. Got to land a Polynesian kid named after a Book of Mormon figure.

Skyridge QB Kaneal Sweetwyne is another BYU recruit. He had his first start last week and looked a bit shaky in a loss to Timpview. They play Liberty Patriots today in Henderson.

One thing to watch for is how the new transfer restrictions impact schools like Skyridge, Lone Peak and Corner Canyon. All of those schools have fed off transfer students who, unless they get a qualified waiver, will have to sit out the first 5 games.

    Impressive, indeed.

Is Kasuga a senior? How big is he? I wouldn't look forward to the BYU band playing "We are as the army of Helaman" but he sounds like he'd be a great pickup.

He's a Junior. I don't think he's physically huge or anything, but good enough to have offers from powerhouse programs like USC, aTm, Auburn, and BYU. He also has Utah Utes in his top 8 which I think is a nice gesture on his part.

An interview with him just appeared on my twitter feed. He's wearing a BYU sweatshirt. Can't be a bad sign.
