  • If these guys can stay (mostly) healthy, I believe the 49ers will represent the NFC in the Superbowl this year.

            • This D is sick. I really like this team. Easily looks like the best NFC team.

                      Sorry. Won't happen again.

                      • So Kaepernick is getting the start tonight against the Bears whose defense has been playing quite well.

                        Eff.

Then they have a short week and have to travel to play the Saints in the Superdome.

                        Eff.

Kaepernick looked pretty bad through the second and much of the third quarter last week and then looked pretty good in the fourth quarter. But he almost turned over the ball a couple times. Now the Bears are coming into town with that defense that creates turnovers. Kaepernick looks really athletic and he has a very strong arm, but his accuracy is a little off. He has more upside than Alex Smith while he has also has much more downside in the form of turnovers. But when you're a Super Bowl contending team you don't want to be breaking in a new QB and I'm afraid that downside may rear it's ugly head tonight.

Jason Campbell is a competent backup for Chicago. They still have that cruddy o-line while they also have some very good skill players in Forte and Marshall. I read yesterday that the Niners have the oldest D-line in the league -- but they're also counting Isaac Sopoaga who doesn't get a ton of snaps. The Niners run a lot of plays only featuring Justin Smith and Ray McDonald who are the only official d-linemen on the field, but they also have Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks -- two passrushing OLBs -- lined up on the line of scrimmage. I think the Niners front 7 (well, six on many plays) can exploit that o-line.

On the other end, I expect the Niners to run the ball a ton tonight. They have the best runblocking o-line in the league, but runblocking and passblocking obviously aren't the same thing and that's why they also give up a lot of sacks (that and Smith too often holds onto the ball too long, the Giants o-line was suspect back in 04 with Kurt Warner because he held onto the ball too long, then Eli comes in and all of a sudden the number of sacks goes down). Kaepernick will probably have the green light to run often under pressure and I think he will cause the Bears some fits tonight.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

You might look like the real deal playing for that team. They are strong everywhere, with playermakers at the skill positions, excellent Oline play and great coaching/preparation. That's taking nothing away from CK, who is a great athlete, but damn - what a team.
