  • Apparently Miami decided not to hire him and it is between stanford and San Fransisco, with stanford having the edge. Crazy.

Part of me would love to see what Harbaugh could do with Smith. The other part thinks it would be smart for Alex and SF to move on from each other. I will be curious to see what happens.

          • Yes! I can now let out a sigh of relief. I think this is a good fit. I'm very pumped as a Niners fan right now.

I just think Smith's time in San Fran is done. The franchise needs to move on, as talented as I think Smith is and as much as you can't fault him for all the losses... time to move on IMO.

                • Now we need a GM. That's the second big piece of the puzzle. Third is a QB. We still have a way to go before I'll give a sigh of relief.

Baalke is the GM. He's not the most experienced guy, but his draft last year wasn't terrible (though I didn't love the Anthony Davis pick) most of the rest of the guys we landed (Iupati, Taylor Mays, Anthony Dixon, etc.) look like they should be able to stick around for a while.

I'll agree on the QB. The more I'm thinking about it (and seeing Luck withdraw) the more I'm hoping for Kevin Kolb. Although you wonder if now Luck is having second thoughts...

Would Kolb be worth the #7 pick?

I hadn't heard that. I had thought they were looking outside the organization. He should be good, though. I'm pretty pleased with our young talent.

Yeah...that was the original plan...at least we got Harbaugh.

I'd move #7 and our 3rd rounder for Kolb and the Eagles first rounder. I'd maybe consider giving up our second roudner as well, assuming we're swapping firsts.

Here is the thing. At almost every position the talent is there to compete for a division title with the big exception at QB. I think Kolb showed enough that he can be a competent QB in the NFL. The weapons in San Fran are there in Davis, Gore, Crabtree, Josh Morgan, etc. They just need some consistency from the QB.

I would think long and hard about giving up #7 for Kolb if that is what it took. Part of it depends on who else is on the board at the time though.

That may be the one college job he would jump to.
