After what he said about BYU, I agree.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostNope. Hate that guy, been saying it for years."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

If he wasn't a Mormon and he wasn't from Vegas, I'm sure if think he was a dick. But he is, so I think he's awesome.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostAm I the only person that thinks Bryce Harper is a dick?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. I endorse this post...and I endorse Bryce Harper. He's a heckuva guy.Originally posted by falafel View PostIf he wasn't a Mormon and he wasn't from Vegas, I'm sure if think he was a dick. But he is, so I think he's awesome."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

So, free agency not going as well as evryone thought (it looks like).
Heard a report today Harper is talking to the Giants. Hang in there CJ.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Ugh. Giants signed Gerardo Parra and Cameron Maybin over the last few days. As usual they are about 7 years past their prime. But hopefully that means they are out on Harper.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostSo, free agency not going as well as evryone thought (it looks like).

Jon Heyman said today that the finalists are Philly and SF. Giants did offer a shorter deal than Philadelphia. So hopefully the Phillies land him. Although Harper on a 3 year deal, I might be ok with.Last edited by cougjunkie; 02-13-2019, 08:52 AM.*Banned*

I like Bryce Harper. He works hard and he plays the game hard. He's arrogant but I like personality in sports stars. He is fun to watch and will sell tickets.
Having said that, I'm disappointed he's in Philly. 13 years/$330MM. I'm guessing he wishes he'd taken the 10 years/$300MM the Nationals offered in September. It will be hard to root for him in a Phillies uniform.
Unlike most fans I have seen, I do not think this contract will be an albatross like Ryan Howard or Albert Pujols for a few reasons. One, Harper is younger and I think he's going to be crazy good the next 5 years. Two, the next CBA will be more player friendly, making contracts like this one less onerous. Three, the annual salary, at $25.4MM, isn't that high for a 26 YO, 6-time all star.
Phillies fans should be excited for this deal. While the rest of the league is playing possum with free agency, the Phillies took advantage. Hopefully their young talent doesn't materialize or this team will be a force.

No opt-outs for Harper is a huge miss from Boras.
$25.4 annually, tells me the market wasn't as hot as most hoped. Machado gets more per year.
A no trade-clause for Harper tells me that when he is in year 15 at 34 years old and on the decline with 5 years left on his deal. He is making Philly pay him every last penny.
Finally, he really is not that good. WAR under 1.5 in 2 out of the last 3 years. His dWAR is -3.0 for his career, so he is a liability defensively. I won't bash his .249 average because he does get on base at a very high rate. But his statistical comps per baseball reference are Richard Hidalgo, Glenallen Hill, Corey Hart, and Trot Nixon. Did any of them get $330 million?*Banned*

Same. I think this is why the Giants were offering a short term deal instead of the 10+ years he wanted. Also Andrew Baggarly reported that ballpark played a major factor, Harper wants to hit dingers. Also due to the high California state tax rate, the Giants and/or Dodgers needed to blow Phillys deal out of the water. Estimates in the $375 million range.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI'm mildly relieved the Giants didn't land him.*Banned*
