    Ted Ginn traded to SF

I still think Ginn has some potential but he will never be a legit number 1. He is a good KR/PR and would be a decent 3rd option.

He will be that behind Crabtree and Davis. That is a good move for SF I would think.

This is great for the niners. Joe Nedney was on the radio this morning saying he hopes the Niners take a kick returner as their first pick, preferably Spiller. So, I guess they can focus on corner and a tackle now.

It's a great move by SF. Between Davis and Crabtree, SF doesn't need a #1 (Crabtree very well could end up being that guy). Ginn can stretch the field much better than Davis and Crabtree and open up things even more for them.

SF already has a solid young defense that's only getting better. And between Gore, Davis, Crabtree and Ginn (to a far lesser extent with Ginn), they have some really good skill players. IMO, Ginn is definitely worth a fifth round pick, he could still end up being pretty good and he fits in nicely with SF.

And with SF's two first rounders they'll be picking up a guy to probably bookend with Joe Staley at RT or LT and they'll pick up a corner. I'd like SF to grab Mark Bulger just in case Alex Smith continues to suck ass this upcoming season.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I agree and think he still has potential as a 3rd or 4th option. This has to hurt though just like it hurts the Steelers to only get a 5th round pick out of a guy they took in the first round.

Ouch. This does speak volumes about The Ohio State University. I couldn't help myself.

He'll be a great target for Jimmy Clausen

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

There's no way SF is taking a QB in the first round.

Unless you count trading one of their first round picks for Roethlisberger (yeah right). SF has a lot or pieces in place to contend, they just aren't settled at QB. SF had more than enough ammo to have made a run at McNabb. But the worst thing would be starting at square one with a rookie QB, especially one from this year's class.

If they take Spiller, it won't be long before he starts taking carries from Gore. Spiller is a beast.

The Niners has no, I mean no, KR/PR production last season. It cost the ST coach his job. This is a great fit for that hole.

Good one. Did you follow the NFC West in 2009? AS and MB had about the same number of starts last season and off the top of my head, I bet AS tossed at least ten more TD than Bulger.

Peyton Manning would have tossed ten less TDs for that Rams team. And as a matter of fact I do follow the NFC West and that's how I know that Bulger has a 15 point higher career pass efficiency rating.

I would love for nothing better than Alex Smith developing into a good QB. He's still only 25 and a QB Niners will really need on offense after they (most likely) draft a bookend RT with one of their 1st round picks to go along with Joe Staley. Smith has provided a couple glimmers of hope that he can do well as long as the coaching staff remains stable. But it would be nice to have an insurance policy besides David Carr, especially one that had multiple 90+ pass efficiency years (and one that was over 100).

I agree with you. I just hate the rumblings that SF would use one of those first rounders on a QB when they could really bolster the O-Line and maybe add a Spiller or someone like that. I think the division is theirs this year.

The 49ers are going to draft players who can become starters now; not projects. They'll take OL and DB with their first four picks.

I don't think a guy like Spiller would be a project perse, but the QBs would for sure. Believe me, I want Alex to win and win big there. If he can't do it this year, then it is backupsville for him.

Many of the draft projections I've seen have the Niners picking Joe Haden out of Florida. He's the top CB in this year's draft class and the teams picking ahead of the Niners have needs elsewhere. I'd be very happy with that pick.

The second first round pick will likely be whichever OT falls. It could be someone like Trent Williams (which would be great) or it could be that Polynesian player out of Idaho.

I find it amusing when I look at some of these draft blogs and it mentions that the Niners have a ton of holes to fill. Not really. Nate Clements is probably moving to safety and they can fill the CB hole with Haden. They also need another tackle, that also can be filled with the other first round pick. They can pick up depth at RB and some interior o-linemen later in the draft. Besides this, they have a decent d-line, really good LBs, and good skill players on offense. The Niners lost a ton of close games last year and collectively had a fairly positive point differential. 10-6 or 11-5 is very possible this year.

FTR, I'm bullish on Alex Smith this year. The Niners probably feel like they have enough depth at QB between Smith, Carr and Nate Davis (a promising QB prospect they picked last year). I just wish they could change out Carr for Bulger. Then again, maybe Bulger just totally sucks after his injury a few years back, it's not like I or anyone else has seen much of the Rams the past three years.
