reportedly between 12 and 15 million per season. That is unreal for a coach, even more than uncle Phil.

Agreed. He has to take it.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThat is serious f-you money. At 15M per season, you take that and run to the hills.

Am I the only one that thinks that there's no way he (or anyone else) can realistically succeed in NJ? I guess if you don't mind the hit to your reputation then them money would be nice.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

You forgot Calipari. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Yes, I was thinking of them (well, some of them). And with carroll, wasn't his reputation mostly built after the NFL? And I'm not sure Spurrier's reputation has remained after going to Washington and now with South Carolina.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postpitino, holtz, spurrier, pete carroll.......they all managed to survive the hit to their reputation.
It would seem none of the names you mentioned were able to get jobs at the same level as before they left, with the exception of Carroll.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

His reputation is secure regardless of what happens tonight. At this point, he is simply adding to his legacy.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostK wins tonight and his reputation is secure.
You forgot Calipari.
The notion of a hit to his reputation makes little sense when, in the same breath, you express doubt that anyone could have success in New Jersey, anyway.
Coach Cal is good example, thank you. Larry Brown is another example....the guy is a career vagabond and seems to be doing just fine for himself.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Interesting. I wonder if he's just trying to get the media off his back on the night of the biggest game of the year, and the biggest game of the last 5 years for Duke.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostCoach K hates dynastic wealth, enjoys working for 15% of his market value

Maybe once the season's over he can start thinking about how much money that would be.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Definitely a part of it. Today would not be a great day to give a wishy-washy response to a question that will be asked again tomorrow, anyway.Originally posted by falafel View PostInteresting. I would say that a 5-yr contract would be reasonable for someone of Coach K's stature, esp since he can negotiate using the existing Duke job as leverage. As such, he would be looking at a $75M contract. He is making around 2M and small change at Duke. He would have to work more than 30 more years at Duke to make the same amount of money he could make in 5 years with the Nets.
This isn't about loyalty to Duke. This is about money. Pure and simple. You can't be sane and walk away from that much cash.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

You're not factoring the cost of a soul. Working in Newark will surely suck your soul.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostDefinitely a part of it. Today would not be a great day to give a wishy-washy response to a question that will be asked again tomorrow, anyway.

The thought "You can only water ski behind one yacht at a time" comes to mind here. I doubt that Coach K wants for anything, he is 63 years old what does he want to start over with the worst team in the NBA for? If wasn't interested in the Lakers job with Kobe, why would he want the Nets with Brook Lopez?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostCoach K hates dynastic wealth, enjoys working for 15% of his market value
