So the Phillies game threw the first pitch five minutes before the Reds game? Is nothing sacred to that damn Bud Selig?

Also, in the best pitching match-up of the day, both Grienke and Verlander seem to have settled down. Grienke's retired 7 in a row, Verlander 10.

So Heyward didn't waste anytime trying to live up to the hype going deep in his first at-bat in the bigs.

I think the Mariners have put together a really nice lineup and they should be solid defensively. I think that the changing of the guard in the AL West is going to happen this year. It is going to be the Mariners or the Rangers.

In San Diego's home opener, the Chargers Padres lead the Braves 14-0 in the sixth.

Their lineup sucks. Aside from Milton "Clubhouse Cancer" Bradley, the last time anyone in the middle of their order had an OPS over .800 was Griffey in '07. Ichiro and Chone are one of the best 1-2 combos in the game, but they don't have anything behind them.

I subscribe to the notion that off the field behavior is largely of little import, but I believe Milton pushes way past that notion. His production isn't worth the headache.

I guess I should have clarified that they don't have a ton of punch in the lineup, but they are fantastic on the defensive end. The Mariners last year proved you can get a lot of mileage out of preventing runs.

You realize that we are 1 week into the season right? It is too early to make any judgment calls at this point on what is working. I would love to believe that we have enough games to make a judgment because the A's have been fantastic in the 1st week.

I wish to meekly and humbly point out that as of now, the NL pennant goes through San Diego. Best record in the league, magic number down to 146.
