Luge in itself is a dangerous sport but they say it's that final turn that has most of the accidents. What if they were to completely enclose the track for 10 or 15 feet coming around the bend? What killed him was that he flew over the "high, protective railing" and hit the steel beam.

I wondered the same thing....why is the track open-air at all? It seems like they could do pretty cool icey things if they could loop across the ceiling occasionally.

The lugers would be like hamsters in a cage and it would make for bad TV. Plus, how do you get ice to form on the ceiling? Maybe they could make it like one of those old funhouse turning tubes that you had to walk through and put wheels instead of runners on the luge.
        PLesa excuse the tpyos.
