Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Baseball writers are some of the most vindictive people on the planet. If a guy refuses to give them an interview early in his career, they will tend to never vote for him into the Hall.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostAnyone who doesn't put Greg Maddux on their first ballot should have their voting rights revoked."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Your ballot would rank right up there with the worst of them. Andre Dawson wasn't a monster. I think he is a borderline guy, but he is now officially the OFer with the worst OBP in the Hall of Fame, hardly a monster.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostMy ballot:
Andre Dawson: He was a monster
Jack Morris: See his post-season record to know why he deserves it. His 1991 WS pitching was amazing. He has three WS rings with 3 different teams. He started the opening game for his team every season from 1980-1993 (that has to be a record).
Don Mattingly His stats are equal to Kirby Puckett's. He was the big deal of the mid 80's. 10 homers in 10 games.
Dale Murphy:
Jack Morris shouldn't even be in the discussion. The guy doesn't have the stats to justify that and a handful of good outings in the World Series doesn't change that. You just cannot look past his career 105 ERA+. Including him is even more egregious when you include him and leave off Blyleven. Morris never had an ERA under 3.0 in his career, Blyleven had an ERA under 3.0 a total of 9 times. Morris never had a season with an ERA+ over 130.
I defer to the good people at fjm.com for more support
"1. 3.90 career ERA (okay, the first one's yours)
2. 105 career ERA+ (100 is average! Not average Hall of Famer. Average! Jamie Moyer's career ERA+ is 105.)
3. Never finished in the top 4 in ERA in his league. (So undominant!)
4. Never ever ever had an ERA under 3.
5. Zero seasons with a WHIP below 1.16 (an arbitrary cutoff point; Blyleven had nine such seasons)
6. 3.80 postseason ERA (not exciting anyone)
7. 4.87 LCS ERA (6 games, who cares, but if you're going to give him credit for his World Series performance...)"
Blyleven should have been 1st ballot and Morris shouldn't even be considered.
Dale Murphy was great and probably the best player in the league, but only for about a 5-year period. That isn't enough to get him in the Hall of Fame when you start stacking up a lot of really mediocre years. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression
