Just saw the ESPN graphic that Woods has averaged less than $300k in tour winnings each of the last two years.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

This is probably a small part of the problem. But I was watching yesterday, and he seemed to really smoke a drive. It bounced on a hard part downhill and rolled a fair distance. Total drive was 315 yards. If this was DJ or Day or Bubba or Rory, I would expected it to be 350+. Ten years ago, Tiger was outdriving his competition 50 yards. Now, he's down off that, but even worse his competition is up. Even if he gets everything else back on track, his driving distance will be average at best.
The bigger problem is that his swing sucks right now. But even if he fixes that, I think this will mean he never will have the same advantage.

His swing was good this weekend, he was throwing darts. He was solid the first 3 days. Sunday he had 1 bad hole. If he pars 11 he shoots a -3 67 and is right in contention. He birdied 4 of last 6 holes and lipped out a 5th from about 8 feet.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThis is probably a small part of the problem. He also has one injury after another, so he's continually developing rust.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThis is probably a small part of the problem. The competition is also better now. The best players that Tiger had to contend with were Mickelson and Els and both guys were older than him by a few years. Has anyone within 3-4 years of his age won more than a couple majors? Bubba Watson won a couple, who else?
Neither Els nor Mickelson are the equivalent of Tom Watson or Gary Player who both took a ton of majors away from Nicklaus (10 majors vs 18 majors). Lee Trevino won six majors, so he was the guy like Els/Mickelson who was the contemporary of Nicklaus.
But McKilroy and Speith look like they're going to be like Watson and Player. Jason Day looks like he could be like Trevino/Els. Maybe Woods gets one more major, but I'm really beginning to doubt that.Part of it is based on academic grounds. As of the time of your post, it was down over 400 points today and is now down around 13% on the year.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostProbably why the market has tanked.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Here's another update, it's down 1,500 points in a week, but apparently that's not a drop in the market. Is that merely "below average?"Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThanks for the update.Part of it is based on academic grounds. ESPN says it was the same surgeon so I would guess it was done in Park City.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostDid he have the surgery in Park City again?"You interns are like swallows. You shit all over my patients for six weeks and then fly off."

When Tiger himself is non-committal about his return to golf, something is really wrong with his back:
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
"You are an intemperate, unscientific poster who makes light of very serious matters.”

Isn't Steinberg the agent that had Young and some other really notable clients. He then succumbed to using alcohol I think and went downhill. I always thought he was good and if that is him, it is nice to see he got back on his feet.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post

No idea if there is a connection.Originally posted by byu71 View PostIsn't Steinberg the agent that had Young and some other really notable clients.
