  • Hot Stove Report!!!!! Baseballs winter meetings/off season thread

I love baseballs winter meetings. This is a thread to post rumors, deals, and other offseason headlines.

Curtis Granderson to the Yankees in a 3 team deal.

    Yanks get Granderson
Diamondbacks get Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson
Detroit gets Max Scherzer, Austin Jackson (top prospect), Phil Coke (middle reliever).

Also the Yankees resigned Petitte to a 1 year 11.75 million dollar deal.

In typical Milwaukee fashion the Brewers over pay for Randy Wolf 3 years and 27.5 mil

I love this time of year too. I'm very curious what the Braves are going to do. They need an outfielder and a first baseman and they need to move Lowe and now Soriano. They have a stud outfielder and first baseman in the minors but they are probably are there until at least July. Also, the probably need to move Kelly Johnson. The Braves should be pretty active over the next 10 days or so. The pitching staff is solid and the bully is good. With the right pieces to the offense added, the Braves could be back winning division titles again as soon as this year.

They addressed the middle relief/closer by getting Wagner and Saito.

M's signed Figgins and are looking to spend money. Supposedly talking to Jason Bay, Rich Harden, etc. And of course they've started negotiating Felix's extension.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

And Soriano accepted arbitration after signing those two. Kind of threw a wrench in the plans. So I expect that Soriano will be moved. The Braves don't have an extra $7 million for a middle reliever and that is what he would be next year.

Angels are still hot after Halladay. With the GM change for the Jays this offseason, they are starting all over again.

And, the Angels lost Figgins to the Mariners. I am mostly pissed it was in the division.

Kurkjian said the other night that the deal right now is Erick Aybar, Mathis or Napoli, and Joe Saunders for Halladay.

That is a lot of young talent being given up by the Halos.

From what I have read, the two GM's haven't even met yet, so I am not sure what could be on the table. If what you say is true, ouch.

I hadn't heard that Ricciardi was fired by the Blue Jays. A very stupid move by the Jays especially considering how much they handicapped him with the Vernon Wells deal. I wonder if there is any chance the A's can hire him back. I would love to see him back as an assistant to Beane.

The Hot Stove League is looking like the Cold Stove League for the Dodgers. I can't find any rumors about anything significant the Dodgers are trying to do.

7 years 120 million for Holliday.

Other news Scutaro signs with the red sox, as does Beltre.

                          LF- Ellsbury
                          CF- Mike Cameron
                          RF- JD Drew
                          3b- Beltre
                          SS- Scutaro
                          2B- Pedroia
                          1B- Youk
                          C- V-mart

That is a pretty solid team.

Giants overpay for Mark Derosa. 2 years 12 million for a guy that has never hit more than 25 homers and is coming off of major wrist surgery.

Beltre is a dud. I'm so glad Seattle didn't resign him. He wasted piles of cash the whole time he was in Seattle. Sure, he played good defense, but he is a corner guy, and corner guys have to hit for power. He never hit, let alone for power. Theo's a sucker on this one and Jack has been making all the right moves for a GM.

Wasn't the Beltre-is-a-dud line obvious as soon as they signed him? It looked ugly in Seattle from the start.

By the way, isn't the Hall of Fame election tomorrow? Robbie Alomar is the standout in the new class, but we'll see which of the holdovers are able to make it through. Blylevyn, the Hawk, McGwire, Murph?
I have nothing else to say at this time.
