Why? It doesn't accomplish anything. I guess maybe you say Splitter is only a 20 mpg guy, and you can redistribute the extra 13 minutes between Favors and Enes. But again, that's not really accomplishing anything.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI would be happy with that deal.
- Doesn't help the logjam at the 4/5
- Doesn't help on the wing because Jackson is terrible at this point
- Doesn't help at PG because Mills isn't worth much there
- Euro dude will never come over
It does preserve the cap space, but again, if that's all you're after, just let the guy walk.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I would really like to see an eventual big man rotation of Favors, Splitter and Kanter.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNo idea what purpose that serves. Only remotely interesting piece is Splitter, but he doesn't help the logjam. The move preserves cap space for next year, but you can let Jefferson walk and do that.I'm like LeBron James.

Silly rabbit, Milsap won't get traded. They're going to pay that undersized pouter a boatload of green.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI would really like to see an eventual big man rotation of Favors, Splitter and Kanter."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Yeah, ok. So say you plan to let to clear out both Sap and Jefferson after this year. That leaves you with Favors/Splitter/Kanter as your rotation next year. I will say that makes some sense. They'd play some seriously nasty interior D and likely struggle quite a bit on offense for the first while.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI would really like to see an eventual big man rotation of Favors, Splitter and Kanter.
And I'd still like to see them maybe bring over Tomic as the 4th big.
But my assumption has always been that they'll bring back one of Sap or Al.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

To me the purpose of that type of trade would be to give Corbin the green light to play Favors and Kanter more. It wouldn't be about getting better, it'd be about utilizing the pieces currently on the team differently. And if they would be getting Jackson back to make contracts work, I would have to think that a buyout would be the very likely result of that and so it could save them a bit of payroll for the remainder of the year.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNo idea what purpose that serves. But the only decent piece is another big. He's still going to get +20 a night, and like I said, all you've cleared is 13 to split between Enes and Derrick. That's not doing much.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostTo me the purpose of that type of trade would be to give Corbin the green light to play Favors and Kanter more. I'm okay with it because it increases the chances of Favor's minutes going up this year. With Jefferson on the team, you are guaranteed that Favors continues to sit on the bench too much.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostWhy? It doesn't accomplish anything. Plus, Splitter could be a nice player for the Jazz in the future if they decide to sign him.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

This trade points out how little Jefferson is regarded in the NBA. Sure I'd like to see the Jazz get back more, but that is about what Jefferson is worth.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostBut the only decent piece is another big. Yeah, ok, that's fair. Favors is playing 22 a night. Getting him to 30-32 a night would be nice, even if that means you're just kicking peanuts to Enes. I guess Enes just continues to play fewer minutes until next year (though I'm assuming the big rotation would look the same again next year).Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI'm okay with it because it increases the chances of Favor's minutes going up this year. Just tossing darts here, but I think the team could employ a lineup of Millsap at the 3 more frequently if they had Splitter paired with one of the other two bigs, rather than Jefferson on the court. So if could feasibly open up more time for Favors and Enes to split than just the difference between what Jefferson plays and what Splitter would.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostBut the only decent piece is another big. But since it wouldn't be landing a guy on a long contract, or someone at a position of greater need like PG, or draft picks, I think it would be a perspective shift trade and not something that would be viewed on what it would change in terms of what the team accomplishes this year.

If the Jazz want back more (young piece or a decent pick), I'm guessing the requirement to pull that off would be taking back some semi-bad contract. This scenario leaves them without much of a salary consideration going forward, which they seem pretty set on these days.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostThis trade points out how little Jefferson is regarded in the NBA. Thinking about it more from SA's perspective and it seems like a really smart trade. They don't need Jackson because they can play Leonard more and also like Danny Green. By landing Al, they can rest Duncan more, whether it be complete nights off or a reduction in minutes certain games, and still have a good shot at winning those games. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Al's minutes cut quite a bit, but them really using him a lot while he's in the game...almost like using a post guy in the role of the typical bench perimeter player to come in for some quick offense against the other team's bench.
