Scheffler was oft-injured, but when he was on the field, he was great. He's not irreplaceable, but I think he's worth more than a 5th. It's disconcerting, to say the least, how intent McDaniels is on emptying the offensive cupboard of a team which lead the league in offense with these same pieces.

It's bad enough that he drafted No-sho Moreno over Orakpo (who appears to be an absolute stud) but I guess he's really intent on making sure that every offensive specialist is his one of his own guys--not leftovers from the Shannahan era.

Shanahan was no slouch when it came to stocking the cupboard on the offensive side (his pick of Maurice Clarett notwithstanding). McDaniels is appearing to be a bigger problem every day. Shanahan was somehow able to get along with Cutler, Marshall and Scheffler just fine, McDaniels somehow can't and I don't think these three guys were particularly the problem, I think it's McDaniels. He's definitely giving off some kind of Rich Rodriguez vibe.

The Eagles somehow landed Ernie Sims for a 5th round draft pick in this three-way trade. I thought Sims was actually pretty good, no? The Lions essentially got Scheffler for Sims (Sims was going to be free agent after this year). The Broncos were on the short end of this.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I think so, last year he was injured most of the year but the 3 years prior to that he averaged 125 tackles per season.

Yeah, I looked it up after I wrote the post and I saw the same thing. He wasn't getting a ton of sacks and turnovers, but he at least was a tackling machine. A good deal for a 5th round pick.

Of course the idiocy of the Broncos was needed to faciliate that trade in the first place. Sims for a 5th rounder= bad deal for the Lions, Sims for Scheffler= an okay deal for the Lions when considering the fact that Sims was in the last year of his contract.

            Tim Tebow is a Bronco.

They paid a pretty penny to move back into the first round to acquire him (a 2nd and 2 4th's), but still have a 2nd and 2 3rd's for tomorrow.

Like I've said in multiple threads, Tebow as a first round pick is a reach. He's a much safer prospect and much better value in the 2nd or even 3rd round. But that said, he's a tough, athletic football player who was roommates with Riley Cooper that has responded well to coaching. He's already made huge improvements to his release and throwing motion since the Sugar Bowl, and one or two years of sitting on the bench and getting further coaching from an NFL staff will develop him into a decent NFL QB. He won't be a Pro Bowler, but he'll be an upgrade to the QB's Denver has seen since Elway (excluding Cutler).

You don't win games in the NFL by being a good guy in the locker room or having a winning reputation in college. Ken Dorsey and Craig Krenzel are testaments to that. But considering the attitudes McDaniels has faced from Cutler, Marshall, and Scheffler, bringing in a high-character guy like Tebow who has already dealt with the national spotlight and media pressure will be an asset to the team.

In sum, I probably wish they had let Tebow fall to Buffalo, but considering we also drafted Thomas, I would say today was a good day. This is only 1/4th of the battle, though. They have to produce, as well as the guys they drafted last year.

Tim Tebow. Bwahahahahahahaha! Tim Tebow. Bwahahahahahahahaha! Ok. Seriously, bwahahahahahahahaha!

It is about time that someone else takes the Al Davis role as the dumbest man in the NFL making player decisions.

              Thank you Denver. Bwahahahahahaha!

Ok, now that I've stopped the uncontrolable laughter, I just had a very grim thought.

Tim Tebow, as terribe as I think he will be, will have a better NFL career than Jamarcus Russel. Not so funny anymore.

And they didn't use the #1 overall pick to get him.

And apparently they moved up to get him. He also went ahead of Clausen. Crazy. McDaniels is betting his tenure in Denver on Tebow. If he flops, I bet McDaniels gets ran out of town.

McDaniels may get run out of town before Tebow even gets a chance.

                        Exactly.

Yes it always does. I wish the Raiders would have addressed their O-line. Morrison is fine in the middle. I don't know that McClain gives us that much more over him. And I guess now David Nixon won't ever get a decent shot. I would have been much happier with Davis or Bulaga as a pick. They have way too much talent in the backfield to not adress the line.

I completely agree. I'm guessing they take a OT with their second round pick. There are a few good ones still on the board. If they take Clausen I will probably be on suicide watch.

I thought Clausen was coming with the 8th pick. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to the Raiders but I hope he doesn't. Though I am sure he'll be a huge upgrade over Gradkowski or Russell. The Raiders defense is decent enough though that if they addressed the O-line they could let Bruce or FatMarcus grind the clock by handing the ball off the whole game. But Cryptkeeper Al would never dream of winning that way.

                              • How's this for sobering. TMQ writes:

Here is my attempt to sum all McDaniels trades: In exchange for Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Tony Scheffler, Peyton Hillis, a third-round pick, two fourth-round selections, a sixth-round choice, a seventh-round choice and a conditional late 2011 pick, the Broncos have acquired Kyle Orton, Thomas, Tebow, Brady Quinn, Robert Ayers, Alphonso Smith, Richard Quinn, Seth Olsen, Perrish Cox, Decker and Miami's second-round choice in 2011. Orton was the sole member of that group who started for Denver in 2009. Ayers, a defensive end chosen as a pass-rusher, played on passing downs and did not record a sack. Richard Quinn, a tight end, had no receptions. Smith, a cornerback, mainly played special teams and Olsen, a guard, did not get into a game. Thomas, Tebow, Decker and Cox will be rookies.
