I don't remember Ohio State's line up, but did they graduate many players last year, or is this basically the same team, BYU faced last year? Do you believe BYU is improved over last year? I would say service is better, but I did not watch as much last year, as I have this year.Originally posted by pelagius View PostStarts in a little while."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Great match yesterday. BYU brought it from the service line and Sander was unbelievable. Dobbert was slow going at first and I really questioned Olmsted's decision to start him over Patch initially. Durkin didn't have a very good game and was all over the place that first set. But BYU got LBSU out of system consistently by going right at DeFalco which got him out of sync. We rattled the best player in the country and kept the best setter in the country off the net.
Looking ahead to Ohio State, BYU needs to pass. Everything Ohio State does starts at the service line and they bring it. Their philosophy is serve it hard and deep. I expect them to go after Langlois. Ohio State doesn't have the offensive firepower as LBSU but they're still good. Their defense is better but that's predicated on their strong service game.
I like BYU's chances Saturday. They're underdogs and won't take Ohio State lightly like they did last year. Nobody really knew how good they were because of their light schedule. They won't have that advantage this year. They will also have the pressure of defending the title in front of their home crowd (can also be an advantage). If BYU serves like they did last night they'll be on their way. Durkin will have to set better and BYU will need more from Langlois at the net. But they have to pass. BYU can't get down early IMO. If they allow Ohio State to get on a run they will start swinging freely and this match can turn into last year's quickly.
Regardless of the outcome, pretty incredible effort by Olmsted this season managing all the injuries and juggling Patch and Dobbert. He's guided three teams in consecutive years to the championship. Time to win one coach."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
