Since this happened the team has gone 14-6 and moved up from 7th in the conference to 4th and clinched a spot in the conference tournament.
Sadly the 42-10 softball team got left out of the NCAAs. Unfortunately with softball probably being the WCC's weakest sport there is zero margin for error. In this case it essentially came down to a single 1-0 loss in April to LMU. Find a way to win that one and instead of tying LMU for first they win the league and autobid. There is no wcc tournament.
Also sad that this BYU team was better than last year's which did go to the NCAA tournament where they eliminated two other teams, including the host of their regional and came close to getting to the super regional. The Big 12 can't come soon enough.

My 11 year old plays softball and has asked me about going to the college world series for about as long as she's known about it. OKC where it's always played is driving distance for us and I got some tickets this year. When I told her we were going this year, after celebrating for a minute her first question was, "is BYU going to be there?" Ouch. At least a few weeks ago I could answer that it would be tough but possible. Oh well, It will be so great in the near future when BYU teams from so many sports will be coming out here often and not far from us.

That is one of the strangest perversions I’ve heard of. Here’s a mission story you might have trouble believing:
Near the end of my mission I was a new AP and our president was out of the country. I had just dropped off some elders at the airport who were returning home and was heading back to the van when I heard my name called overhead. I was being instructed to pick up a courtesy phone. I did, and a frantic elder from a 6 man apartment in a city an hour away informed me that one of our elders was in jail. They had no idea why, they said the cops just showed up and took him.
We drove to the city and to the police station where we got a beyond icy reception and were essentially told to come back with a real adult who had some say over the Mormon presence in Belgium. President was able to get the guy released over the phone with the promise that “the missionary would get professional help.” Well now my curiosity was running wild and when president got home he told us this elder had masturbated from their apartment doorway while children walked to school on the other side of the street. The children reported him and the police immediately showed and arrested.
I was floored that the police had not only let him go without charges but that they’d also let him stay in the country. Even more insane was that the lds church let him stay. the president had called SLC and they had sent some kind of psych eval that they had the president administer and when he reported the results they decided he could stay.
A couple months later I got a call about 10 pm that I needed to go look for this same kid who had skipped out on his comp. I spent 4 hours driving the streets of Brussels looking for a needle in a haystack. Obviously we didn’t find him in that huge city. He eventually returned on his own and admitted he’d been out masturbating in public again. Apparently the thrill of it being public was what he couldn’t resist.
Well, now I knew he was at least going home and this made me happy as I hated that they’d let him stay. Another call to SLC followed, and another instruction to let him stay. I could not believe this and asked president specifically why on earth he had sent people home for what seemed to me much less. He said SLC really didn’t want this to define the kid and were giving him another chance. I should also note that we as APs were instructed not to speak about this with anyone. After my mission I saw the kid at BYU and knew he’d been allowed to finish the whole two years.
Looking back as an adult I still cannot believe a guy could do that purposefully in view of children and be allowed to continue representing the church. IMO he should’ve been prosecuted and jailed in Belgium. Since they failed though, the church should’ve sent his ass home immediately and made a note to keep him away from children. I often wonder whatever happened to that dude as I doubt his drive to do that just disappeared.

Wow, that is wild. I agree that is was handled very poorly.
I suspect this guy didn't quit. You could probably google his name to find out."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
