  • Leadville 100

Lance is putting a whooping on the field. At twin lakes he has a 13 minute lead over Weins. I still have yet to get an update from my good friend who finished 12th last year.

Let me say this though, even though I like LA, I wish he hadn't tried to turn this into a road race.

What do you mean by this? I haven't really followed the build-up this year.

It basically is a road race. From what my cousin told me last year, dirt and paved roads comprise probably 90% of the route. If someone is looking for a technical single track course, Leadville is not the race for them.

From a standpoint of tactics. Lance had a team of guys come this year and basically pace the first 40 miles of the race for him.

Yes, that is pretty lame. Weins wouldn't stand a chance if its him against team Astana/radio shack. Lance wouldn't stand a chance if it was just him against Weins. I think Weins is that good.

I signed up through their site. It was 6 bucks and I was hoping to get updates of my buddy, but it is basically a LA and Weins update show.

Looks like Weins has made up a little time. He is 11 minutes back now. In third is Shawn Beeton 6 minutes behind Weins. 4th is Len Zanni, 4 minutes in back of Beeton.

People have stopped LA on the road. He can't get through, police are trying to clear so he can get through.

Now he has a police escort bringing him through.

Came in with a flat rear tire. Wonder how long he had that.

Weins comes in at 6:57:02.0. Almost 30 minutes later. Weins is a hell of a gracious dude in his interviews.

My buddy crossed in 20th, not sure on the official time. Somewhere in the 7:45 range.
