I have a Cateye HL-EL135 headlight and a TL-LD130 rear light. They're nice because they're small, compact and efficient. I like that they have different settings that give you the option of a pulsating light or just a constant beam. They're easy to mount, but if you get into an accident they likely won't survive it.
I don't ride a whole lot in the dark, mainly in the dusk right after sunset, but the few times I have ridden later, I've felt comfortable with the light the EL135 puts out. I put both on flashing when I'm in traffic so that it's easier for cars to see me, and I've been surprised at how much I'm able to see with a flashing light as opposed to a constant. That said, I'm only riding for maybe 20-30 minutes in the dark/dusk. If I were doing most of my riding in the dark then I'd want a higher power headlight. I'd still go with a cateye, they make good stuff.

A little of both. I want to see the road, but don't need it to be as light as day. I would like to be able to avoid a fallen branch or large rock.

are you looking for light to see th eorad or light to be seen by motorists? the 1/2 watt is not enough to see th eroad, IMO, althogh it might be enough for others to see oyuOriginally posted by Clark Addison View PostAnyone have recomendations on a decent, inexpensive LED light for a bike? I was looking at a couple from Planet Bike, they have a 1/2 watt and a 1 watt. Don't know if the half watt would be bright enough, but it looks like I'd get a lot more battery life out of it. Also looked at a couple from Cateye.
I like to ride early in the morning, so it is pretty dark, but I don't need it lit up like daylight, as the roads I ride on are familiar, in good condition, and sparsely traveled.
