Hate to disappoint falawful, but it was for a Family reunion. We were about 1/4 mile north of the pier. I was skeptical of the location, but it was an awesome vacation.Last edited by Green Monstah; 06-05-2014, 11:55 AM.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Rode with my buddy this morning and I was able to ride a little faster staying at 17-18 mph for a majority of the ride. I even hit 20 for a bit. It feels awesome getting back in shape.
Had acupuncture done for the first time on my bad Achilles a couple of days ago and I must say I'm now a believer.

Going to physical therapy for some tendons around my left ankle and foot. It's from running, and it seems I should cross train with biking, so I'm gonna start.
Reading this thread makes me want to go look for some basic riding safety tips. As far as dogs go, perhaps I should keep a small pepper spray on me. Deploying it while riding could be tricky, as I remember getting blow-back while using it outside during my prison days.

One day I was cruising down US 395 on my bike, just minding my business, and this car pulls up next to me and and rolls down the window to talk. They ask if the dog following behind me was my dog and if I knew it was so far from home. I look behind and there is one of the rez dogs from when I had passed through a part of the rez about 3 or 4 miles back. I guess I was going about the right speed for him to keep following and giving him false hope. Eventually he turned back for home. Too bad, would have loved for him to have been flattened by a semi.Originally posted by creekster View PostI wouldn't worry about dogs too much. You can outrun them.

I've had some dogs give chase a couple of times but I've never felt in danger. Usually a loud yell to tell them to go home does the trick. If that doesn't do it spraying a little bit of water on the ground next to the bike will usually side track them enough to give up the chase.

My wife has wanted a road bike for several years, but didn't find the motivation to actually do something about it until a recent bout with plantar fasciitis slowed down her running mileage.
I found what seemed to be a screaming deal on Craigs list for a Specialized Ruby road bike. After a few text message negotiations we arranged to go look at it. It was better than advertised. This woman, fairly new to cycling, had bought the bike about 2 months earlier and had put about 200 miles on it. She didn't feel like the bike's geometry fit hers very well, so she went out and bought a trek instead. She paid $1900 new for it and sold it 2 months later for $600. Basically a brand new full carbon fiber bike with Tiagra components.
My wife loves it. She has primarily done her riding on a nice paved trail near the river in our hometown, being nervous to ride on the road. Early this morning I took out for a quick 30 minute ride on the road. She loved it. Not enough to give away her running shoes, but she definitely had a great time.

My dog getting what was coming to him story. I'm riding down a road on the right side and a dog on the other side of the road decides to come after me. He enters the road just as a truck was coming down the other side and he gets hit. I could see him getting rolled underneath the truck as I was going by. I never had another problem with dogs from that house.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostToo bad, would have loved for him to have been flattened by a semi.

Did my out and back with my buddy who is faster and had a good ride. Stayed at 17-18 mph. The 20 miler is much easier then a week ago. I had planned on doing 40 or 50 miles today but decided that 100 miles in my first week of training was enough. Looking forward to taking a day off to see how I will do.

When those in Texas and other flatlanders come to the Bay Area for some fun climbs and rides, we'll begin with this one (I'll wield the camera). Seriously, as the rider passes the cameraman and the view sweeps up to the remaining climb, I got a little sick, like when I'm riding around a bend and an unanticipated climb suddenly appears.

Remember the San Francisco Grand Prix back in the early 2000s? They raced up Fillmore street. A very steep hill.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostWhen those in Texas and other flatlanders come to the Bay Area for some fun climbs and rides, we'll begin with this one (I'll wield the camera). I've biked 19 miles everyday this week but Sunday and had one day where the wind was brutal and today I choose to bike in steady to heavy rain. Back in my running days I loved running in the rain and I enjoyed my ride today as well. This is my second week and I love it. I need to learn more about the art of shifting gears. The aero bars are also something my back isn't used to and I'm not using often. The next two days will be twenty five mile rides which puts me at 126 miles for the week.
