Levi Leipheimer had an absolutely disastrous day at Paris-Nice. A strong contender for the overall title at the beginning of the day, he was positioned nicely going into the ITT tomorrow. He had 2 crashes early on in the race this morning. He was able to bring his team back to help him work their way back to the peleton and was actually within 40 seconds of the pack.
While flying down a descent with 10-15 kms from the finish, they rounded a corner and were surprised to find a rider down and a race official's motorcycle on the side on the road to protect him. His whole team crashed out, with one of the guys looking pretty dazed when he tried to get up. His day and his race were over. Levi got back on the bike and was able to finish, but he was obviously hurting.
His lousy luck was reminiscent of Rasmussens final ITT at the Tour several years ago, and also Lance Armstrongs nightmare stage that effectively ended his tour aspirations in his final effort a couple of years ago. Probably should have just stayed in bed this morning.
