Armstrong in a bit of trouble?

Apparently his tester agreed to let him shower while Armstrongs people checked the tester's credentials. Since he was not under direct supervision during that time he is apparently in violation of testing protocol and can be punished.

At first glance it seems Lance has done nothing wrong and the whole thing is just more French a-hole-ness. But as I think about it, it's fishy. If anyone knows how these tests go it's Armstrong. Why would he risk violating procedure like that?

LA just tweated cryptically: "was wining the Tour 7 times really that offensive?" (paraphrase) and Johan Bruyneel said somethign like "I ma glad I am able to alugh at certain situations" Neither addressed it more directly. Bruyneel was more focused on whether Horner had broken his wrist (x-rays negative) at the the Pays Basque race.

If you read Armstrong's whole account, he and bruyneel really questioned this guys legitimacy. And if said tester jackass wasn't suppose to let Armstrong out of his presence, then he shouldn't have let him.

Not saying he did it to cheat. Just wondering why he'd ever leave the guy's sight. He knows what that can mean.

That was a very nicely written and persuasive response.

I agree. I take back my "fishy" comment and hope that Lance will forgive me.

Armstrong sounds almost resigned to being booted from the Tour as a result of his shower.

I still think this is more about the French being ticked that an American dominated their race.

I only (very) peripherally follow cycling, but a couple of questions arise from this. If you're Armstrong, why not just submit to the test? You need to shower? Really? You know the whole world's eyes are on you--why even give the appearance of impropriety? Just submit to the test without question, and then complain if you have to.

Also, from what I've read, this tester was a veteran of drug testing, in the field for 15 years, has tested for numerous big events and teaches other drug testers how to do their job. Did Armstrong really not know this guy?

I'd be curious to see the form where the guy wrote that there were no testing irregularities. Apparently, the agency's story is that he warned Armstrong repeatedly that he could not leave his sight. He also claims that it was only after they threatened to call the police in that Armstrong submitted to the test.

The leak to the press seems fishy, but it seems like Armstrong could have avoided any controversy by just cooperating.

Unless he really does have something to hide.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

This was my original point. He knows how these things work. I thought his explanation was good but it'll be interesting to read what the tester's version of events is.

On the form the tester uses to record events he marked that the test took place without irregularity. IOW, he was satisfied. It is the French anti-doping authorities that asked the UCI to investigate, which the UCI has not agreed to do yet. But the French can act unilaterally for events within their own borders.
