    Another bike-car accident

Utah’s independent news source since 1871, The Salt Lake Tribune covers news, entertainment, sports and faith for Salt Lake City and the state of Utah.

A two-door passenger car went out of its lane and slammed into a bicyclist about 7:45 p.m. Thursday night near 6200 South and Wasatch Boulevard, said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Jason Johnson. The 57-year-old bicyclist was hit head on. The young male driver got out of the car and looked at the unconscious man but got back in the car and sped away as witnesses approached.

A young woman was a passenger in the car.

The bicyclist was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries -- a broken leg and shoulder -- but was still in critical condition Friday morning, said Salt Lake County spokesman Don Hutson.
I'm still amazed that people will drive away from something like this.

It's the behavior of a coward.

I think we discussed this last year sometime on CG. Archaea was discussing this phenomenon wherein drivers target cyclists out of rage or annoyance.

It was hard for me to fathom, but the examples seem to abound, with your post being the latest in a string of strange and awful incidents.

I still don't get it, though. If you don't like cyclists, just drive on by. Why run them down?

I guess in fairness, the article is not clear that the guy was purposely targeting the cyclist or whether he was being a careless driver (maybe texting while driving or something like that). Regardless, his hit-and-run makes him a loser of epic proportions. Talk about showing complete disregard for life. It isn't so much the hitting of the cyclist, but getting out of your car, walking over, looking at the person, and then running away without helping or giving assistance. Yikes.
      Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

This is crazy. These cyclists really need to get out of the way.

That was my first thought as well.
