Yeah that was one of the differences between Utah and Texas neighborhoods I noticed when we started househunting out here. That and the love affair with giant boulders.Originally posted by nikuman View PostSignificant sections of Houston are concrete - it's more common than not in newer areas."It's true that everything happens for a reason. You've lived in other parts of the country. Did you see concrete streets in neighborhoods there too?Originally posted by FMCoug View PostYeah that was one of the differences between Utah and Texas neighborhoods I noticed when we started househunting out here. The only places I've ever seen concrete streets are the freeway and overpasses/bridges.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

they're due for a trim. fear not!Originally posted by camleish View Postdo i see hair on those legs??? get that isht off!
I did go with bibs instead of shorts, btw. Good choice methinks, after a ride. Also, I only did six miles but two things are apparent:
1. My butt isn't going to hurt anywhere near as much as I thought it would.
2. My cardio may be off the charts, but I have some muscles in my legs that need some work.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Yes in Oklahoma. That was in 97 or so. Before that I was in Utah."It's true that everything happens for a reason. Just remember that sometimes that reason is that you did something really, really, stupid."

Lookin' good. The last and final touch is to put the clothes pin on with a playing card to click in the spokes. You'llbe sure to pick up all the chicks."Newton's First Law of Motion: ...things at rest tend to stay at rest. Things in motion, tend to stay in motion...."

Man, you're already in better shape (no gut) than all the rest of us, except maybe Archaea. What's up with that? And maintaining 22 mph on the first time out the door? That's pretty darn good. You should have signed up for Lotoja with RC.Originally posted by nikuman View PostAnd the happy couple after the honeymoon (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/83535065):

That looks like a pan-flat profile. What were the bumps, potholes or manhole covers?
Heck of a first ride. Keep it up; hope to see you at a group ride soon.

Do you guys shave or go another way? I saw an ad for 'Nair for Men' in Bicycling recently.Originally posted by nikuman View Postthey're due for a trim. fear not!

I, too, was surprised that the butt didn't hurt as much as I had expected and the day before riding for the first time recently, I had run but wasn't able to stretch afterwards. I was wary of riding like that, but soon found out that those leg muscles weren't hurting too much during the ride. But afterwards, both sets combined for a lot of soreness.I have nothing else to say at this time.

Manhole covers. Welcome to Houston. I've been having a horrible time finding hills for running training; it's going to be worse for cycling, I can tell.Originally posted by mtnbiker View PostMan, you're already in better shape (no gut) than all the rest of us, except maybe Archaea. Don't read too much into the speed. I'm itchy for endurance exercise of any kind (my running is on hiatus until the marathon) and 6 miles and change isn't any sort of distance to write home about. Longer rides will tell the story. And I have some definite work to do on my quads - they burned by the end of the ride today.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

It certainly is contagious. I've been toying with the idea myself. I just started running again and it's the same old story - one week in and I've got shin splints.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThat looks great, nik. I have been toying with buying a bike and hitting the road this summer to learn how it's done. This thread is really making me give some serious consideration.
Your pic makes you look like a seasoned vet, at least to these untrained eyes.

So what's the benefit, engineer guy? Not as much freezing and thawing in those areas so the road can take it?Originally posted by kccougar View PostIt's common in St. Louis and also in Memphis.
When I lived in Chicago there were large sections of the freeway and some highways done in concrete. During the winter that crap just crumbled like a cookie (so did the asphalt).Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Yes. Lasts longer, less maintenance. On the downside, it is more expensive than asphalt and more costly to repair when you do need to rip part of it up.Originally posted by falafel View PostSo what's the benefit, engineer guy? Not as much freezing and thawing in those areas so the road can take it?
