I really would like to join a club this year. Mainly for the purpose of just getting out on some group rides and learning from others as well as riding new routes. I'm a creature of habit and I have only 2 or 3 rides I like to take and feel comfortable with.
I joined a club 2 years ago (my first year), and the group rides that were supposedly every monday at 6pm were pretty much non-existent. The main reason for joining that club was proximity to my house, the weekly recovery ride was perfect timing for me, and I liked the jerseys. Turns out the research I did wasn't exhaustive enough, as it was much more of a competition driven group, lots of drinking, etc. Wasn't a good fit.
What kinds of things do you guys look for when looking to join a club?
Those of you in Salt Lake, do you have a club you'd recommend. I work out in Draper and Canyon Bicycles is within walking distance. Plus the owner is in my book of business. That would be appealing to me.
More than anything, I want to join a club that will be good for me. TIA!
