Cancellara the great

Did anybody else watch Fabian C simply ride away on the cobbles between Paris and Roubaix yesterday? What a display of strength. The guy was amazing and you have to love his attitude. There is little to dislike about Cancellara. He seems like one of the good guys. Note this victory came after his flanders win (one week after).

He is showing great early season fomr. I am sure he hopes to turn this tour de force into a tour de france victory or two. I, for one, will not root against him.

As ana side. It always annoys me that the call the ride Paris-Roubaix gieven that it starts in Compiegne. This would be like calling a race between Provo and Vernal the Salt Lake/Vernal classic. Compiegne should stand up for itself. Once on vacation I dragged my wife to Compiegne to saee the start site and walk among some of the cobbles. I convinced her to do this by telling her we were going to see the start of thre Paris Roubaix race. I can tell you she was not confused by this. It was very clear to her that Compeigne is not Paris.

I watched half last night. I was going to watch the last half tonight, but seeing as I know Spartacus won, I may just fast forward to the move now.

Ouch. Sorry about that. I guess I need ot be more careful, just in case. It is still worth watching, however.

I watched the first 100 miles or so, but missed the final attack. He looked incredibly strong, not only riding away solo from the lead group, but he was also often the one to cover most of the other intermediate attacks and breakaways through the whole course.

I thought Boonen rode very well, as well, but the difference between he and Fabian is a lot bigger than the 2 minutes difference at the end of the race.

I saw the whole race. It was a great move he made attacking while Boonen had dropped back. I'll admit to being a little bummed out because I knew we were going to see an hour of Cancellara time trialing. It's cool to see somebody dominate like that but not as cool as a down to the wire race. I think Boonen could have made it exciting if he hadn't been given the slip.

I'll admit to being a little bummed out because I knew we were going to see an hour of Cancellara time trialing. It's cool to see somebody dominate like that but not as cool as a down to the wire race. I think Boonen could have made it exciting if he hadn't been given the slip.

THat's true and a good point. Even so, Cancellara was amazing. Boonen seemed ot give up a bit at the end. His last little surge in the velodrome lacked much oomph.

That was an amazing ride. I thought he'd be toast after having ridden away from everyone in the Tour of Flanders, but he's got incredible form right now. 45km solo, over cobbles? Crazy.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have the build to win the grand tours. He's big and powerful, but can't get over the big climbs with the mountain goats.

Did you notice that Chris Horner won the Tour of the Basque Country? Biggest win of his career.

I did notice that about Horner. I was on vacation this week and where I was it actually got play on regular TV! Horner is another good guy. I don't know much about the Tour of the Basque country course, but I would expect it to be pretty hilly and I would think the basques would be pretty amped up for it, so that has to be a big win for Horner.
