Stage 6 of Tour of CA

The Amgen Tour of CA is slowly releasing the information on the stages for the race. I like that the date was switched to May, despite the conflicting date with the Giro. February weather is very unpredictable around here, but May should be perfect wherever they go.

I can't wait for stage 6 of this years tour.

Pasadena to Big Bear Lake. 135 miles and 12,000 feet of climbing with a summit ski resort finish up at 7,000 feet elevation.

Some of the others are intriguing (like SF to Santa Cruz), but this one should be great to watch.

Where are you going to try to get stationed - start or finish?

I'm trying to remember - were you able to get any good pictures last time you volunteered for the Tour? I'm jealous, that would be a lot of fun. I would join you but I'll be saving up my time off for a certain organized bike ride about 2 months later.

I did the start area a few years ago and that was fun. I worked security (what a joke) and got to hang out where all the teams signed in and pretend that I was part of the circus and tell all the plebes, poeople like you, to stand back. I think this year I might try to do the finish line area. It should be a good time. I will return and report.

I'm telling you - they could make a killer stage here in Shasta County that would rival most stages in intensity from the Tour de France. I would vote for a mountain top finish up at the Lassen Peak trailhead parking area.

They really could. A Mt. Shasta stage could be pretty cool too and is close enough to feel like home.

There are a lot of potentially awesome mountain stages in California. In the past, as I understadn iut, they didnt choose them beccasue theyt didnt want those killer stages so early in the season and ebcasue they eanted the race to go to the people. With the May start the first reason is out the window, but the second one sis till valid. This year in apr5ticaulr, given that any big names will likely be at the Giro, they probabyl want to have stages around population centers as much as possible.

Rather than start a separate thread for each stage, I'll mention here that I love the look of Stage 4. My wife and I have ridden most of the route a lot (albeit as two separate rides, and excluding the Sierra Road Wall which is the gnarliest stretch I've ever seen (on the profile, the initial climb is Sierra Road--it's something I expect never to do). But we ride Calaveras Road and Mines Road frequently. Mines Road starts at around mile 40 on this stage. The long climb is great training for the Tour de CUF. I'm working on my costume now as I intend to witness this stage.
