Any recommendations for a low-end bike ($200-300 range) for my 10 year old? I have a Stumpjumper and have always liked Specialized, but this bike is likely going to be on pavement 95% of the time and like most kids going over curbs, thrown onto the ground and generally beat up before New Years arrives.

Sorry about the lack of responses here, Art. Cycling posts don't usually get stone-walled like this.
I wish I had something meaningful to add here. That is way more than I would pay for my now-9 year old's bike, so I've never even priced out kid's mountain bikes. I think when we got his mountain bike last year we did Walmart or Target and picked one a couple of inches too big for him so it would last some time. Its been great so far. He put a lot of miles on it this year and doesn't know the difference between that and something $200 more.
