anyone want to guess whose stat line that was tonight?
James "The Freak" Anderson.
I was VERY surprised by that kid tonight. Not only were his numbers good; he looked good doing it (sometimes one can luck into good numbers; JA earned them). To these untrained eyes, Anderson looked a lot better than Miles.
After all the bad things I heard about Anderson over and over again from our elite internet analysts before this season, he's looked pretty good this season. He's no NBA prospect, but he has decent mobility and challenges shots better than anyone else on the team.

THe kid is still a project but I agree he has looked solid so far this year. The main thing I like about him is that he realizes he is almost 7 feet tall and he knows that he can avoid foul trouble and still disrupt a play just by playing straight up. Miles has yet to figure this out.

Anderson's dad is a coach and it shows. James is a decent athlete for a big, not what I would call a good athlete but not exactly a stiff either. He needs more ass, but given that he is a 22 year old freshman, how likely is it that he will put on the mass to become a good post defender?
Saying that he disrupts more shots than any BYU center since probably Bradley. He just has been well coached how to use his height and get himself into position to alter and block shots. Offensively, he is the smartest BYU center. He knows where and how to position himself, he just lacks the strength to be able to physically do it often enough. He also has interesting moves, they look dorky and unconventional but they are effective in their own way. I am far more excited about his future than I was before I saw him play a few times. I used to think that James would never start at BYU as I figured Davies would take over as a redshirt FR after Miles graduates, but it wouldn't surprise me if Anderson takes over after Miles departs and then Davies will get his shot or Davies will transfer.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I haven't given up on Miles yet. He's still got a lot of potential..and while that is usually a word used for what's been unfulfilled....give him some more time.
Miles is still our best big man, though I'm not sure that's saying much. My one big beef with Miles is his lack of rebounding. He needs to get better position and be more physical.
