No amount of teaching can give a kid better depth perception. Some people can jump, others can see. I fit in the former group, not the latter.
So, you either put up a brick or an air ball?

You will be happy to know that this is not true with girls AAU basketball. Not in Utah. Certainly not on my team.
Same with boys AAU basketball in Utah. I can maybe see an issue with too many games and not enough practice to work on fundamentals especially shooting and ball handling, but defense is a priority with just about every AAU basketball team I've seen.
If I try and shoot from distance, I'm not consistent on depth. I shoot long or short way too often and can't adjust for defenders. As a result, I always put the ball on the floor and get to the rim where the margin for error swings in my favor.
