Utah cancelling series vs BYU thread

    I have no problem with a periodic audit of athletics departments. They audited all the department subsidies recently.

      I have no idea if this is true, but for once I hope mpfunk is actually right.

      Utah has tried to systematically downgrade the stature of BYU... we all know this. But they've also done the same thing to USU and Weber State. (Weber State? are you for real? This is the Utah athletic version of clubbing baby seals.) When you use taxpayer $$$ to fund an agenda counter to the overall mission of that state university system, you shouldn't be surprised that you're going to get audited.

        Taxpayer subsidy of athletics is pretty outrageous wherever it happens. But calling attention to it as flagrantly as Utah has is just dumb. How much do <strike>they</strike> taxpayers pay for this kind of leadership?

            The taxpayer subsidy for Utah is probably a lot less than you think. The athletic department is subsidized by the students a lot more than taxpayers. If you want to bitch about taxpayer subsidies, go talk to Utah State.

                Meh. Let them have they petty pound of flesh. Outside of the inconvenience of an audit, what do they actually think they will accomplish?

                  I'm also sure this damn near guarantees the rivalry is dead for a long time. I'd be shocked if we see another football contract or another basketball contract for 10 plus years.
