Unfortunately, I don't think a Davis/Mika combo will work out well unless Davis can make open 3's consistently. He should spend most of the summer working on the corner 3 and the top of the key. If he can hit 38% from those spots he'll get lots of opportunity with Mika drawing a lot of attention inside. Otherwise teams will be able to double off Davis, clog the middle, and bog down the half court offense.

I think there are plenty of other offensive sets where that combo could work well together.

Any chance we get Dave Rice back?

Aytes isn't a freshman. He is a dude who is 3 years removed from playing high school ball and is either injured or looks completely overmatched and lost. I have a hard time seeing ever contributing at BYU.

You are right he is a soph. But he played 6 games for unlv due to injury. Transferred to BYU last year and sat the entire season
Due to injury. This summer he gets hurt again, and the beginning of this season again he gets injured. He has played less than 20 games in 3 years.

I have seen some flashes from Aytes I really like.
He has a nice face up jumper, he's long and a good rebounder. I think he ends up pretty decent.

Rice is meeting with Dave Rose this coming week about just that. However he also met with Indiana, New Mexico and San Diego state about positions.

Haha. You do realize Luke Worthington started for this team last year.

Aytes has a D-1 skillset, he is only a freshman and he has been plagued by injuries. He has shown flashes of promise and I think he will continue to improve and be a very solid player for BYU.

Watching Aytes early in the year you could see he was running with a really odd gait. My suspicion is that the length of his layoff and the trouble he had with foot/ankle? really set him back. I think it is way too early to right off a guy who spent a very long time recovery from an injury.

I remember worrying that KC would be done like his brother because of his knees. So glad he's been able to overcome his DNA.

He shoots 61% at the FT line. Color me skeptical he will be very reliable at the 3.

I do think that Nick Emery is building his resume to be the man starting next year. Anyone else like seeing that yet?

I like Kyle Davis but if BYU is going to be good next year I think Nick Emery has to be scoring 20 or more ppg and Eric Mika needs to score more ppg than Kyle Davis. If Mika is as consistent in the post as Kyle and then adds putback and fast break points he will outscore Kyle. Kyle is not a put-your-team-on-your-back guy, but he would be a fabulous complimentary guy. If Emery averages 20, Mika averages 15, Davis averages 13 and Bryant/Haws put out 18 between the two and the bench can get 16 between Chatman, Hartsock, Yoeli Childs, Dastrup and Kaufusi BYU will be a serious threat to win a game in the tourney.

Davis has attempted 12 threes this season. Pretty small sample size to make that determination. If you throw in his attempts at Utah State, he is 6-18 in his career from 3. Not much to go on there.

Agreed. At this point I can't say I would want Davis to be shooting 3s. I like Davis, but for BYU to be at its best next year we kind of have to hope Davis ends up being a really good backup at the 4 and an important piece of deep team up front.
