    What has BYU learned?

Against talented competition, the team has defensive liabilities. We don't play man to man well.

It also has limited interior options for offense.

Haws needs to improve his judgment on when to challenge a defender as he gets stuffed too often. Nate needs to be more productive, and to make better decisions.

It can be a decent team but is too unathletic to be one of BYU's better teams.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Well I guess it doesn't matter whether they learn anything because their lack of athleticism will doom them and prevent them from improving.

Carlino, Haws, Collinsworth, Mika are all great athletes: all are both quick and fast and have good hops. I think Mika runs the court better than 90% of big guys.

Are you one of those people who just assumes white guys aren't very athletic?

I think this team has a pretty good shot at the Sweet 16. If they don't go that far it will have nothing to do with being "too unathletic."

Did you see how Mika got schooled and frustrated by Wichita State, ISU and Texas?

When does Carlino jam it? He works hard and is aggressive but he doesn't out jump anybody.

I don't find them to be athletic, but they are aggressive.

Schooled? In those 3 games he averaged: 14 and 6 while shooting exactly 50% from the floor. For an 18 year old true freshman, I would say those numbers are pretty spectacular. You do realize that this is the most hyped freshman class in college basketball history and Eric Mika is going to be a freshman all-American? He is going to join Jabari, Wiggins, Randle, and Gordon on that list.

You lose a lot of credibility by saying someone needs to jam it to show you athleticism. 99% of players in college basketball can "jam" it. Sorry chief but dunking a basketball is not a difficult thing.

It is difficult against good defense. To be able to drive on your defender and up and over. That level of explosion is important.

Sportscenter has a top 10 for a reason. The plays you are talking about always make it. You act like athletic teams drive down the middle of the lane and dunk on people at will.

Look at the way Carlino finishes around the basket. That is athleticism.

I call it aggressive, determined play.

I know you don't watch many games but Nate Austin dunked on someone this year and nobody would call him athletic. I guess besides you, he seems to now fit your criteria. BYUs least athletic player based on your own criteria is the most athletic.

Austin works hard but at six eleven you don't get credit by dunking. You need superior speed, explosion and amazing height on your jump. Additionally you need lateral agility.

Ok. So now BYU is not athletic because they don't have 6'0 guards that can dunk on people. Got it.

You are ignoring the entirety of my requirements for athleticism. Speed, explosion, agility, and body control. Compare our athleticism to most int the top twenty-five.

Why do you believe we play poor man to man defense? A lack of foot speed is a a big reason. What evidence do you have to the contrary?

We play poor defense because of conditioning and effort. When you run the way we do it takes its toll on the defensive end.

Carlino is a very good defender when he wants to be. Look at his anticipation and the way he plays passing lanes.

Bartley and Winder are elite defenders on any team.

Mika is still learning but without depth he is asked to stay tall and try to stay between his man and the basket.

Austin is not a good defender but he has dunked on guys.

Haws seems disinterested in defense but he has the abilities to be a good defender.

KC is very versatile and part of being a good defender is rebounding on the defensive end. He does that very well.

They sacrifice some on the defensive end due to the offensive philosophy.

BYU locked the Aggies down defensively in the second half. USU was shooting 52% from the floor on the season and 48% from three. They bettered those numbers in the first half. BYU found a good lineup with Bartley playing over Austin and held them to 37% from the field amd 27% from three.

Which tells me they have the "athletes" but lack the effort.
